NEW OLP (for anyone that cares!)
#31

so how come Mike Turner left? has his replacement stuck it out or has the guitarist position turned into a revolving door? Didn't they do some cheesy "coast-to-coast search" for a guitarist, ala Limp Bizkit?

Mike Turner left due to creative differences, i think it was because he wanted to keep working with Arnold Lanni, and Raine wanted to go with Bob Rock, and Turner had enough sense in his head to get while the going was still good, plus i imagine Raine probably started to get on his nerves too...

I'm pretty sure that they hand picked Mike's replacement, and that he's still in the fold. I think his name his steve, whoever he is, he isn't even half the guitarist that Turner is...

FUCK!

THE NEW OLP JUST CAME ON MY RADIO! UGH!

too bad, they just played 38 years old, and sharp dressed man, then they had to crap it up. this song sounds like OLP trying to be Blink 182 Sad.

Actually, I'm not. Duncan wasn't in the band longer than Raine. Other than their new guitarist, Duncan is the newest member to the band!

Chris Eacrett was the bassist on Naveed. Duncan Coutts replaced him in time to record Clumsy.

Look it up.

what I remember hearing (after Naveed got hot in the Buffalo area in 95) was that those 4 guys (Raine, Eacrett, Turner and Taggart) got together on the premise that they wanted to have 4 guys coming from four distinctly different backgrounds in terms of music they play and listen to, and then see what "came out." I thought that sounded like a really cool idea. I have no idea if that's an "OLP urban legend" or whatever, but it makes for a good story.

i dunno, but one thing i do know is that they're a whole different band to me without Mike, he really made that band what it was, and now that he's gone, it's turned into something completely different, and i don't like it one bit. not to mention that they aren't as good live anymore.

I saw them in Buffalo in 1997 at a tiny club and they blew the roof off the place. The next time I saw them was 3 years later and it was (if I remember right) all acoustic. I got the impression that that was the format for that tour. I found the whole thing to be pretty boring, actually. Not that I can't get with an all-acoustic set -- one of my favorite things in the world are Dave Matthews / Tim Reynolds shows. But this was just lacking. The show was only an hour long, and the setlist was uninspiring to say the least. I was eager to hear lots of material from "Happiness" (not knowing the show was gonna be an acoustic evening) and they played very little off that album. After that, I lost interest in following them on an ongoing basis but I still love their first three.

Agreed. I was never a big OLP fan, but the early stuff was quite good, and Mike Turner's guitar playing pretty much defined their sound at the time. They really did have kind of a unique sound back then, and what I liked about them in the mid 90s was that they weren't too polished or commercial-sounding. My how things have changed. Anybody know what Mike Turner is up to these days?

I believe they let people submit demo tapes of themselves and they went through them all and if they liked what they heard they brought you in for a jam session and I guess when they heard Steve play they hired him on the spot, and I dont mind the new guy at all, I still think OLP are great...but I totally go against the grain with this band I think the last 3 albums are way better than the first 3, but hey thats me. And Im not knocking Naveed, it was a great debut, but it just doesnt sound as good as it used to for some reason, I like the songs from that album live alot more than I do on the album itself. I'd recommend picking up the Live album its worth it, if you haven't already that is. :thumb:

find mike here www.mike-turner.net

i agree that since mike left the sound is not the same. they have two guitar players to replace one!!!

yes Duncan wasn't in the band when it first started . Raine and him went to school together at Ridley College in St. Catherines. Back then they went by
Rob and Mike.
