We won't feel so bad in the West when Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver are just owning the Leafs and the Habs (if they play them at all). I left out Ottawa because I think they are going to be solid.

I sure hope my Avs do something. Losing Foote and Forsburg and gaining Turgeon and Brisbois doesn't quite do it for me. They have a big signing in store I bet. Neidermeyer maybe?

It sure is fun to see whats going on in Alberta. Those are going to be some competitive teams and I think they play each other alot this year.

With Colarado and Detroit getting weaker I think there is a chance of some Canadian teams making real noise this year. Lets get the friggin season started already!

The salary cap is based on previous year revenues. I think that overall league revenues are going to be way down for the 2005/06 season, resulting in a lower salary cap for 2006/07. That's a part of the reason why teams aren't paying stars the max they can.... it will cripple them next year when they don't have as much cash to work with.

The Leafs has some good talent on board already; and they've played together. I'm with cferneyh; let's see how the season unfolds as I think that the Leafs will do alright.

Dude, everyone ripped into the Leafs a few years back when they didn't sign Guerin for $9MM or Holik for $9MM. Now Guerin's contract cripples the Stars and Holik was bought out after providing two years of nothing for the Rag$. Why bring back Old Man Roberts and Ouch My Back Hurts Nieuwendyk when the team that had them wasn't good enough to get past the 2nd round of the playoffs the last time they played. Jeebus, the way the Toronto media is going on you'd think JFJ was breaking up the five time Stanley Cup champs.

In other words, before crying in your beer because the Leafs didn't decide to overpay Aucoin, Hatcher, Demitra, et al, wait until you see how the season shapes up.

I for one am stoked. It was time to blow up this team and start again.

I got absolutely no problem with the Leafs taking a pass on Nieuwendyk or Roberts. And Aucoin, Hatchter, and Demitra can be taken or left. But why, oh say why, is there zero Leaf activity to snag someone like Forsberg, or Pronger, or Niedermayer (there were rumours, now dissapated, that the Leafs were in the running), or Gonchar. Instead they're wasting time and money dicking around with Antropov and Ponikarovsky who are spare parts at best -- no offence to them or their mothers intended.

Problem with waiting to see how the season shapes up -- which is exactly Ferguson Jr is doing, sitting around and waiting -- is that THIS is the chance to snag something on free agent market if you're gonna blow the team up and start again. Not in November, January, or April.

As a huge Leaf fan, I must say that I'm more stoked for the return of hockey generally than I am optimistic about Mats and the Boys' chances for any real success in the new NHL. Now, go out an prove me wrong.

Allow me to jump into the Rabid Leaf Fan pool....I for one am glad to see some of the moves that JFJ has made, like others have echoed.
Although it's sad to see character guys like Roberts and Joe go away, I'm excited to see what pans out.
I don't mind the idea of picking up a Jason Allison, he's a hell of a player that still has many good years left, sure he had a tough injury but he's had 2 full years to recouperate.
As far as Lindy goes...leave that bum alone...a solid hip check from my grandmother would leave that guy in a permanent vegetative state. If you use the "old player who is injury proned argument" to rid yourself of Gary and Joe, how can you possibly justify taking a run at Lindros.

Can't wait for the season to start...I for one think this Leafs team isn't as bad as many think they will be.

Zhamnov, Niedermayer, and Roenick have been signed since last time I checked tsn.ca. Leafs are apparently in intense negotiations with Harold Druken to get him down from $450,005 to the league minimum. Go Leafs Go.
