Looks like things are starting to turn even more... the latest poll in The Toronto Star shows the Liberals support has dropped by almost 12 points and the Conservatives are now in the lead by 11 points.

If the Star, which is very Liberal-friendly, is reporting such lousy polling numbers for the Liberals, then you know they must really be worried about the continuing effect of this scandal.

I also remember reading that in this poll, something like 62% of the respondents were against an election now... so clearly the Conservatives, while they must be encouraged by the numbers, must continue to tread carefully.

Way-ell, it took about a week, but the Globe started to get the poll numbers they wanted and now they're reporting them.

Looks good for Harper. Liberal lead cut to four percentage points.

But it really is symptomatic of the Conservatives' problem that the Liberals are still in the lead at all. You would expect something like this would wipe them out.

There is an interesting fact about that poll. Only 25 percent of respondents were polled after the publication ban was lifted. So really the poll doesnt properly reflect the impact of the testimony.

prz, to that point, the lifting of the ban may actually end up favoring the Liberals. Although the new polls show quite a hit to their numbers, the story may lose its legs now that it's out in the open, allowing the Liberals to rebound over time if Martin is able to distance himself from the old government.

Harper's time is now, I think.

It's poll Christmas.

This one has pretty interesting results. Notably, the Liberals are somehow still ahead in Ontario (did I misread that?), and the Conservatives are still only three points ahead nationally. And nine in ten Canadians want to wait for Gomery's report before an election.

btw the Star poll counted only decided voters, while these ones count all voters, thus the numbers aren't comparable.

I wonder if part of the reason they are paying attention to this story is to catch up to the American blogs who ran with the story first (including Captain's Quarters, which was the first U.S. blog to run the story during the publication ban)?
