NFL vs. CFL / what is a better product
#31

I'm from Canada but it's obvious the NFL is a better product. Obviously there is a lot more passing in the CFL because of the 3 down rule but I don't find it more exciting. Also, the 1 point rule in the CFL is ridiculous. I watch some games and after the first quarter the score is 5-2 or something like a hockey game. NFL players are just better for the most part. I will say though that CFL players do truly play for the love of the game because some of the salaries are truly low (exception Jon Avery).

All that being said, GO BC LIONS and GO BUFFALO BILLS!

I think the NFL is pretty damn boring. What do they call it these days? The No Fun League?

I lost interest in the NLF about 5 years ago and just started concentrating on CFL games. Personally I think the Canadian game is faster and a bit more exciting to watch as a sport. The three down system is a beautiful thing. Having said that, I have to agree with all the NFL fans here and say that the live experience of actually being at an NFL game is pretty freakin' amazing. I lived in Denver from '81 to '87 and my dad's company had season tickets to the Broncos. During the playoffs, the old Mile High Stadium was one of the loudest and rowdiest places I've ever been to. It was insane. Not first-playoff-game-at-the-saddledome-in-seven-years insane, but still pretty insane. Back then it was also cool watching John Elway develop into a legendary quarterback. I was at that game against Cleveland (in '85??) when he orchestrated his famous "drive" down the field with under 2 minutes left in the game. Awesome stuff!

This thread reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry snags four tickets to the Super Bowl, but Kramer has no interest in going because he only watches the CFL.

NFL boring??? Let's compare ratings, to say, the NHL. By the way, no NHL season because they can't get that salary cap thing figured out, the NFL did and is the most profitable spectator sport in the world!

btw if you look at the voting breakdown you'll see the GB appear in the top three for the provinces more than any other team, and my miami dolphins appear on the lists twice, the same number as the bills do.

Two days here and already you've got your first insult under your belt. Your parents must be very proud that you are using the computer all by yourself now.

BTW, Gord Downie is a "stupid Torontonian".

i wasn't implying that all Torontonians are stupid, just the ones who choose to cheer for a shitty football team just cuz it's the closest one mmmmk?

btw that wasn't my first insult , and it won't be my last

also, if GD cheered for the buffalo bills, that'd be mighty stupid of him IMO, but it wouldn't suprise me, i mean he is a Bruins fan

also, GD's an imported Torontonian, he'll always be a Kingston boy at heart, just like Don Cherry, Kirk Muller and Dougie Gilmour Wink.

I don't cheer for the Bills because they are the closest team. I started cheering in the early nineties with J Kelly, A Reed, T Thomas, B Smith, D Talley, C Bennett, P Hansen, K Hull because they were a fun team to watch.

The BC Lions are the furthest team from my home and I cheer for them in the CFL.

BTW, 1994 and 2000 Grey Cup Champs! PASSAGLIA BABY!

If Gordie's a Bruins fan, wouldn't that mean he'd probably be a Pats fan (aka very anti-Bills)?

Good call on the "stupid Torontonians" comment though ('n I'm not just saying that cause you're a fellow Phins fan... although that definitly makes it easier to support you). I think the majority of Bills fans from Toronto just like the team because that's all that's showed on TV. Global loves the Bills, so that's all anyone here sees, so they get into the team.

Funny enough, my love for the Dolphins actually grew out of my hatred of the Bills (and Buffalo sports teams in general). I remember watching Dan pick apart that Bills defense and it was great, because Canadian tv loves to show Bills games, so I got to see at least 2 Dolphins games/year. As much as I hate Buffalo, I have to give them credit for making me passionate about my favourite NFL team... even if it is their biggest rival.

Gord being a bruins fan definatly doesnt mean he likes the pats. He's a bruins fan cause his godfather Harry Sinden was in the front office of the bruins organization for so many years. I like the redsox and i despise the patriots. BTW gord told me at darien that he came to buffalo for the home and home series with the bruins at the end of last season.

I know about Gordie's relation to Mr. Sinden (and for the record, he is most known for his coaching days for the Bruins, not his time in the front office). I was just making a joke that if you're using only the fact that Gordie likes the Bruins to determine which football team he likes, it should be the Pats, since they're both from NE.
