I love both bands, and this will my second time seeing them do a co-headlining tour.
The Cons aren't easy to get into, i'll give people that. I highly suggest you grab "Shine a Light" from somewhere and give that a few spins. I think it just takes awhile to get into their sound. And the Weakerthans, well, what can I say, I'm from Winnipeg, I've seen them more than any other band. From 5-6 years ago when they played to 250 people in the Pyramid, to now playing back to back shows in a 1500 seat venue. I also got to see John K Sampson perform by himself in a record store, which was a really neat experience.
@ Grimes
Man, I don't think I can remember a show where they DIDNT play Exiles. I think you're just getting bad luck!

Just for you Grimes, the setlist from Winnipeg. I got Steve from the Constantines to give me his setlist too, that was really awesome. Unfortunately, they did not play Exiles. I didn't go to the second show so I don't know if they played it then....oh well. Next time maybe!

Yes, I did go to the after party. It would seem me and my buddy were the only ones who did. It was awesome, we talked with Bryan Webb from a little after 1AM until we left at about 230. Super awesome guy, I can't say enough good things about him. It was evident he wanted to talk with us...the other band members from different bands and other people he knew, paid no attention to them to talk with us. He did a lot of the talking actually, it was not an akward conversation at all, it was very back-and-forth. Learned a lot about the Hip too...he talked about the Hip for a good 30 minutes. Amazing stuff.

...I should state that "Hateful Song" was NOT how they recorded it at all. They rocked it up, turning it into a classic arena-rock opener. Bryan opted to go guitarless for this song and adopted an almost gordie-like persona on stage with the mic. On the other hand, they toned down "Shower of Stones" quite a bit which was nice. Highlights of the show IMO were "Hateful Song," "Hotline Operator," "Nighttime Anytime," and "Shine a Light."
They really rocked it up and it really seemed like they were not treated like a warm-up band despite the Winnipeg crowd. I was glad the crowd was as appreciative as they were.

Can't wait for the show tonight, too bad game 5's on tonight as well though. Anyone know what time the cons have been hitting the stage?

Awesome show in Calgary the other night! I'm loving the Constantines more and more everytime I see them. What an incredible band. And the Weakerthans were brilliant as always. Not sure about the casio-keyboard version of "Anchorless", but everything else kicked ass. That was also the best sound mix I've ever heard in MacEwan Hall. It wasn't excessively loud and you could actually hear every instrument and vocal clearly. I've been to quite a few shows there, and generally the sound in that place is fairly muddy, but whoever the genius was behind the soundboard on Saturday deserves a round of applause for such an excellent job.
