man, i'm not stealing a page from anyone. we were playing with 4 defencemen some games! we have a junior playing defense and so many AHL prospects up its rediculous.

Those numbers aren't just the number of games these players have played this year...its the number they've played in the NHL *ever*. most of our defense is so fresh off the farm they've been seen by reporters staring at their paycheques after the games...cause they've never seen so much money beside their name!

And now...a list of injuries

Stoll - out for season, concussion
Moreau - out for season, shoulder
Tjarnqvist - out for season, inflamed groin
Hemskey - been in and out of lineup, hasn't played much lately
Horcoff - out with flu last several games, lost 15 pounds due to illness
Nedved - out for season, put on waivers
Smith - playing while injured

those are the big ones. including guys playing through injury, we have 16 guys down. thats insane! can you name a team with more injuries? and losing smyth just adds to the problems...

i'm not whining...the oilers have had some crap luck this year.

Well, I simply can't take you seriously when you claim losing Petr Nedved is somehow a bad thing. That's just crazy talk. How can the Oil march on without his whopping one goal in 19 games?

And face the facts - most of the guys you listed were in the lineup when the Oil were already last in the division and out of the playoff race. It's not like they were in the thick of things until guys like, uh, Nedved, got hurt.

BTW, Robert Nilsson played 53 games in the NHL last season with the Islanders.

having a guy like nedved in the lineup wasnt such a bad thing. he wasn't scoring (again, who is?) but at least he brought some experience to the team. and i was misinformed about nilsson, didn't know he'd played last year.

and yes, some of the players listed have only been recently hurt, but moreau has been out since like the 10th game of the season. we've also had alot of injured guys return to the lineup. of our entire team, only 3 guys have played every game this season. three. it was four until recently when horcoff went down with the flu. thats as telling a stat as any as to the type of year its been...

Cferneyh, you're right about a few things. All three of those coaches have done very good jobs this season and I don't really care who wins COY. Any three of them would be deserving. Also, you're right about injuries happening to every team, but only certain fans like to use it as the main reason why the team is doing poorly. Like you said, the Oilers were pretty much sucking even before this rash of injuries.

day_for_night, you are a true Oilers fan. I give you props because you are the opposite of being a bandwagoner. However, that list of players you listed isn't all that impressive. Nedved didn't add anything positive to the Oilers. What good is experience when a guy is scoring one goal? If experience was that important, all NHL teams would have to do is get a bunch of old geezers. Imagine a team with Owen Nolan, Roenick, Brad May, Keith Carney, Trevor Linden, Chris Chelios, Ed Belfour. Oh man, they would completely own the NHL! :lol:

Yeah....and for all of the things I've heard about Petr Nedved "he brings experience to the team" isn't exactly at the top of the list. He's a career floater who's been bounced around the league more than Alyssa Milano. If your are relying on him to be a stabilizing force, you are in trouble.

As for your "3 guys have played the entire season" excuse, the Rags have had ONE guy play the entire season, as have the Flames. Yet those teams currently occupy playoff spots.

Again, injuries are a fact of the NHL. Either the organization has the depth to deal with them, or they don't, and if they don't, well then that says something about the organization....not "bad luck".

The Leafs still lead the league with 296 man-games lost to injury. The Chicago Blackhawks (292), St. Louis Blues (270) and Philadelphia Flyers (244) are next.

Just for curiosity, and because I'm too lazy to look, what are the injury stats on Tampa? I heard somewhere that their physical trainers must be doing something right, because their injury situation is never that bad.

Richards, Lecavalier, St.Louis and Boyle haven't missed a game all year, and that's all that really matters injury wise

But yeah, year after year the Lightning seem to stay almost completely healthy. Brad Richards hasn't missed a game yet in his NHL career (well aside from 2 when his grandmother died).

Biggest game of the year tonight for the Flames. It's time for them to end this ridiculous slump, string a few wins together, and roll into the playoffs on a high note. The Nashville game on Thursday will be even tougher, but if they get their shit together and play like I know they can, I think they'll be ok. I believe!

I would say it's probably not a coincidence that of the 4 teams listed there, none are currently in a playoff position. I'm not sure what the Oilers' number is either, but if they're anywhere close to those four, it does give some weight to injuries being an excuse for missing the playoffs. Nonetheless, it's certainly no excuse for mailing it in like they have been lately.

Injuries sometimes coincide with the level of aggressiveness that certain teams put forward.

BYW, I don't think any Sabres fans are whining about injuries this year. Yea, it slowed the team down at times, but the Sabres have led the East for the entire season.

After contemplating the Tootto incident a little more, I don't think he should have received a suspension. He LEGALLY hit Modano, then he turns around to see a guy charging at him and he protects himself. I don't think he really did anything wrong, not enough to be suspended anyway. What was he supposed to do when Robidas was charging at him, just take it? He is allowed to defend himself and that is what he did in my opinion. I don't think too much of Tootoo and he is a rat but in this instance, I can't really find too much fault with what he did. I've seen Mark Messier viciously cross check Doug Gilmour when Gilmour wasn't even coming at him with the intentions that Robidas came after Tootoo with. I don't even think Mess got suspended. Matter of fact, I'm not even sure if Mess got a penalty on the play.
