Albums you've recently rediscovered

I was never a huge fan of 80's music, but now and again there was a good artist that came along. I never understood why Jack Green didn't make it bigger, had a great sound to him. This had a lot of great tunes on it.

After this post I gave this album a shot, and have even posted here how amazed I was by this album.

I bit the bullet today, and bought a vinyl copy of this off of eBay today! And the seller had another Jack Green album for sale, "Mystique" (haven't heard it yet)... so I grabbed that one two and combined the shipping.

I can't wait to drop the needle on this one. One of the best / one of my favourite albums I've heard in the last year!

Thanks again, Cochise!

Ha, glad you're liking it! I have that album still kicking around somewhere. I came across the CD a few months back (hence the post) but should dig out the album too. Gotta love that standard "80's cheese" back cover on it!

Also, after months of searching online, I finally found Reverse Logic, Mystique and Latest Game online. Shoot me a pm if you're interested!

...And you wanna talk about 80's cheese? Humanesque has got nothing on this bad boy:

And guess what? The album is pretty damn good too.

The Guess Who - #10
[Image: 51wTuoIyeCL.jpg]

Let me sing a tune if you come around to see me
Let me sing a song if you stop by to say hello
Baby let me croon a tune if you come around to see me
'Cause I never get a chance to sing the blues much anymore

Fantastic and underrated.

Johnny Cash's American series. On American V right now and, subtle as it is, God's Gonna Cut You Down floors me every time. His voice is old and shaky, yet full of earnestness. I love it.

Time for my annual digging out of this one. Absolutely love it, I seem to forget about it until a track comes on over shuffle, then I listen to it non-stop for a while. Every track is a classic to me.

It's been well over a decade (maybe longer) since I last listened to this album all the way through. I think it holds up nicely as a perfectly executed slice of gritty, meat & potatoes rock n' roll. Not to mention the fact that it's a revered CanRock classic. I was 14 when it came out. My family had recently moved back to Calgary from Denver, and I was desperately trying to rediscover my Canadian-ness after 6 years of living in the U.S. That fall I discovered Up to Here, and there was no turning back after that. It was a revelation.

And the big snake pit.
And we danced to the edge of it.
And we laugh and we laugh
'Cause we ain't seen the half of it.

It's always a great listen from start to finish. Definitely wish the boys wouldn't shy away from some of the UTH tunes in the setlists, as I think the 'non-singles' from the album are better known than most 'non-singles' from the catalogue (Everytime You Go, I'll Believe In You, Opiated).

This album has been kicking my ass way too much lately:

Couldn't agree more. Another Midnight is still one of my favorite songs of all time. Such a beautiful tune.

This is the Weakerthans album I listen to the most. The other albums are great, but this is my favourite. I think it's because I started with this album then worked my way back.

Well guess whom I'm going to see in May.

This has been getting me pumped these past 48 hours.

Best live band in the world right now, hands down. The Hip used to rival them easily, but these days it's not even close. 3+ hour shows featuring deep cuts, b-sides, hits, covers, collaborations with the opening bands, pre-show acoustic sets... Pearl Jam does it all and then some. And to top it all off, you get to relive the experience by buying the bootleg of your show in pristine, fully mixed & mastered sound quality.

Sadly they're not coming anywhere near the west coast on this tour, so I'm hoping for a 2nd leg to be announced later.
