We Are The Same Discussion

Keep the reviews coming folks -- i'm really enjoying reading them.

I don't think I've heard one bad one so far like I had when IVL came out. I honestly don't think the critics are going to like this one though. Then again, who cares?

The critics are gonna eat this up. This is brilliant.

I think 'Coffee Girl' is an absolute masterpiece.

Holy surprising album Batman.

Honestly, after hearing those clips I was thinking this album was going to be pretty bad.

I didn't like Love is a First and Morning Moon seemed promising but too polished.

Now...

It's overproduced, but, you know what, who cares. These songs are ridiculously good. They're really exploring different territory here and the different style works.

Last Recluse is killing me now. It's totally a non-Hip sounding song but man, it's great.

I don't mind them changing their style a bit. I really enjoyed World Container but it seemed like the usually hip sound plus Bob Rock production. This seems like the band is really exploring new territory and I'd say that Rock fits in a bit better here. I see this as a bit of an extension of where they were going with Music at Work, except the songs are better.

One niggle is that I have to say I kind of don't like the mixing. It feels fairly muddy. Too many layers I think.

Whatever though, this album is great.

Also: does anyone else hear any Arcade Fire in this? May just be a confirmation bias but "The Depression Suite" and one other song I can't remember right now had that kind of vibe.

A week huh.
Why not? It was on eBay about a month ago, and it's been on the file sharing networks for at least a week.

I'm still holding out. Haven't heard the clips, even. I'm trying to make the live cinexplex event the first time I hear these tunes — but it's sooo hard.

I've pre-ordered from iTunes and have bought a physical copy throught the cineplex deal. Oh, woe is me.

I'm with you too.

When Music@Work was leaked, I drove around for a month with a bootlegged *cassette* of it in my car (that my brother made for me off his CD download of the leaked version) and would only allow myself to listen to My Music at Work and the opening bit of Tiger the Lion (cuz I forgot to hit "eject" one day).

IVL never seemed to leak, did it? I remember going to HMV a couple days before it was officially released and they had it on the listening posts, so i listened to IAGLIYDW and bits and pieces of some others, then I felt dirty and left.

I can't remember any leak storys about IBE, but with World Container, when they streamed it on the website, I only allowed myself to listen to In View (yech) because it was in wide-release already, and Rink and Fly, because I had heard them in concert the summer before.

So, I'll continue the trend of holding out, or at least only listening to Morning Moon and Love is a First if I stumble across it.

Everyone else -- enjoy and I'll catch up with you on April 7.

No way man, I'm holding out too.

Loving this stuff.
Will be interesting to see how they present this album live though as it's a complete game of two halves, hung round the huge, beating heart that is the Depression Suite.
Side two just rocks and The Exact Feeling/Furrows/Speed River/Frozen/LIAF will be loud and unstoppable.
The more delicate tunes though will need care and probablly extra personnel to do them justice.
Fabulous stuff throughout and really delivering with further listens.

I'm holding out too. Call me old fashioned but I like going to the record store to pick up an album the day it comes out. Listening to it ahead of time would completely ruin the experience...

I hear you guys when u say you'll wait it out, but you know what, tommorrow never comes, today is all we have, enjoy whatever you can or get out of with this 1 day :thumb:

p.s. I'm not tell you either way what to do, just food for thought

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

Although heavily produced this is their best album since Day For Night for me.(Music at work and Phantom Power are still Up there) They have explored territory I would have never imagined them to, and it works. This is a 70's Rock album, with an alternative edge, where headphones are required to get the full experience.

Coffee Girl, the Depression Suite, and Speed River are my favourites so far. I'm stoked to see this stuff live.
