Last Night I Dreamed You Didn't Love Me:

my current favorite on the album, and possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever written by anybody.

That is all.

Well I had the opportunity to spin the CD a couple times yesterday. I have to say it is a bit of a departure, but I think it is a fantastic album!

All songs are great, but stand outs for me are “Fly”, “Pretend” and “World Container” (instant classics IMHO).

“World Container” is an all time fantastic closer song, it completes the CD perfectly. I always thought “Afterglow” off of Genesis Wind and Wuthering album was the best closer of all time, but this one ranks right up there (okay 1976 Genesis reference………I am showing my age…………..LOL).

The Kids are Alright, I liked the first time I heard it……………back when it was called “London Calling”……………. kidding around, but you sure can hear The Clash influence on that one……

Is it just me or could you almost hear Queen performing “World Container”? I have never been a huge queen fan, but sure seems to be a bit of influence in that one……….or maybe its just because I have that Freddy Mercury reference stuck in my mind from Fly

Anyways, last words…..great album, 9 little bones out of 10.

Here's a review of WC courtesy of my brother. To fully appreciate it, you might have to know my brother. If you click on the link at the bottom of the piece that says "cd review", you can also find his review of IBE when it came out.

Not a slam on your bro, but he lost me in his very first sentence:

"It will be written: in 2006, Gord Downie discovered melody."

I just can't agree.

I trashed the album here on hip base a few days ago, but now absolutely love it...the hip have reinvented themselves. The only complaint I have is the production on the 2 slow songs...pretend, and world container...these are both great songs, but are way over produced on this album. I can't stand the doubled up lead vocals on the chorus of pretend...and world container sounds like an 80's power balad. Once again, these are great songs...but just should have been done differently in the studio.

Looking at the album art, it's clear this tour is going to have the coolest t-shirts ever. I want one based off the art on the lyrics page for World Container - the whole fish escaping thing - and the tour dates done in that blue font like the lyrics.

I think it's the best song on the album. Very In Between Evolution-ish... the stylistic changes in the bands music are evident when they record a song like "Family Band" first and "In View" last.

Yes, that struck me right away. It's a very grandiose(sp?) song much like Queen songs tend to be. The guitars are reminiscent of Brian May's style.
