Sundin: In his 16th NHL season, has played in 83 playoff games.

In other words, if you divide the number of games by number of seasons to compare apples to apples, Sundin has played in 25% more playoff games than Koivu.

Well, if you want to cherrypick your statistics....

Number of inspiring playoff leadership performances after beating cancer:
Koivu - 1
Sundin - 0

Of course, that's not fair to Sundin.

Sundin, too, has demonstrated great perseverance and strength of character.

I mean, he's kept playing all these years while being forced to wear a Maple Leafs uniform....

Still bitter over that HNIC spanking a few weeks back eh?

There's no need to cherrypick any stats when it comes to Sundin vs. Koivu. Mats' worst seasons are better than Saku's best. The only thing Koivu has over Sundin is the comeback from cancer, but, to paraphrase Bobby Clarke, "I didn't tell Saku to go get cancer."

And for the record, I like Saku....but anytime a Habs fan wants to mock Sundin, well, I don't have to go too far down the roster to pick my return target.

As for teams I think Vancouver could beat, I'd rank them in this order (best chance to beat first and so on):

Calgary
Detroit
Dallas
Nashville
San Jose
Anaheim

The Canucks and Flames have played 7 times this year and Vancouver has won 4 of those games. The Canucks won't represent the West but Calgary won't either. Calgary's only chance is if Pronger gets hurt again. Trust that. The Ducks are the best team in the West, regardless of the records of Detroit and Nashville.

Calgary's road record this season- 7-12-6 Yikes. Doesn't seem like a Cup contender to me. Confusedhock:

I agree the Flames haven't exactly been tearing up the league this year, but I think they have a lot more depth than Vancouver or Edmonton, and I'm confident they'll win the division despite their shitty road record. I agree though, they're definitely gonna have to improve in that area if they want to make any kind of playoff run. I have no idea why the Flames are so dominant at home, but so crappy on the road. I've been trying to figure it out all year and it's incredibly frustrating. (tonight's pathetic effort in Columbus certainly doesn't help). If they can get their road act together down the stretch, they'll be fine come playoff time.

There are only three teams in the West that scare the hell out of me, and that's Nashville, Anaheim, and San Jose.

Shutout number 10 for Broduer last night, the 90th of his career. Just another day at the office. With about 2 months left, he's poised to take a real run at the single season record...

With all joking aside, there's no question Sundin is a great hockey player.

Just imagine how his career might have turned out if he could play for a decent team.

For that matter, imagine how NHL hockey might look if there were still only 6 teams drawing on that talent pool....

He needs 12 more to tie the record... highly doubtful.

Sorry I meant the modern record, Tony Esposito's 15.

Of course the Flames have more depth than Vancouver but depth is no good if your team is giving up third period leads to the Hawks and Blue Jackets in back to back games. Big Grin Yes, Luongo IS the team, no question, but I think the Canucks could give the Flames a real go in the playoffs.

How about a little digression involving the Sens? Spezza comes back and they begin to play uninspiring hockey again...any theories?
