The thing i love about zep, is that i hear something different everytime i listen to a song. So layered and textured and beautiful
Yeah. That's why I listened to Zep almost exclusively in highschool...could never ever get enough. I wore out numerous cassettes of I, II, III, IV, Houses, and Graffiti.
It sounds like an exaggeration, but it literally put me into a sort of trance....especially those songs with big, dramatic themes like Four Sticks and No Quarter and In the Light and Kashmir. I'd aimlessly drive around the countryside after dark, often alone, losing myself in the music. I didn't want anyone along for the ride to spoil my near-meditative state. I'd eventually wind up somewhere I'd never been before or didn't recongize - like some little one-stoplight town a couple counties away - and have to bust out a map to find way back through the foggy or snowy night.
I had finally gotten to a point where I thought I'd heard and taken note of every single audible sound in every single recording....from Bonzo's squeaky kick pedal in Since I've Been Loving You to the faint ringing of that telephone in The Ocean.
So by the time I went to college, I thought I'd better branch out a little and started listening to all the Pink Floyd, Stones, Who, Beatles, etc. I could (as well as some newer stuff....and along came The Hip, a new fixation).
Yet still, I never tire of listening to Led Zeppelin, and have never developed quite the same level of admiration or respect for any other band since....though TTH is probably a close 2nd......
