Apparently the annual breakdown of the deal is like this:
Salary - $10 million
Share in team profits - up to $10 million
Merchandise revenue - up to $10 million
Endorsements - $20 to $25 million

So he's not guaranteed to make $50 million a season, but depending on team profits and merchandising sales he has the potential to.

This is just another instance of irresponsible reporting by the media. Sportsnet, TSN, The Score all have reported that he is going to make 50 mill/year playing in the MLS and he signed a contract for 5 years/250 million. There was no mention that most of it is from endorsements, merchandise, share in profits. I hate the media. :x
