What song should be released as the Second Single?
#16

I voted Luv(sic), cause I love that song, but I think it's gonna be Fly.

people don't really like Last Night I Dreamed, eh? that would be a great single...unconventional beginning, but once the guitars really kick in, I love that song in the car...it's a good mix of charging verses and ballad-ish choruses. hell of a lot better than In View, anyway.

Keep in mind, a radio perpsective is much different than a hard core fan perpsective. Most radio listners do not 'get' the Hip. So, for someone like that, The View was the best choice for the first single and I think that Ocean would be the next choice.

A Hip set list is like a box of chocolates..you never know which one you're going to get.

I'm down for Fly......definitely the most radio friendly song on the album. I am surprised it wasnt' the first released.............

Chalk up another vote for Family Band. The "We'll load out through the snow and..." sequence is easily one of my favourite sets of lines that Gord has dreamed up. His intonation of "smO-kin'" makes me smile every time I hear it, and Johnny's kick drum beats that start as Gord mentions the instrument is a nice touch as well.

And by the way, I love the fact that they're giving an up-and-coming Canadian band a nod by way of the "Wake Up" style chords.

Alas, I feel that Lonely End will end up being the next single, which is too bad considering how many far better songs they have to choose from.

Ditto on Family Band. Fly would be my next pick.

Fly is going to be the next single!!!

Am I the only one who bought the CD??? (What's the emoticon for sarcasm? Oh yeah... :thumbSmile The sticker on the front said something about the singles:

In View
Fly
Lonely end of the rink

I don't know about you, but whenever I've bought a CD and it's had an "includes these singles" sticker, they've come out in said order.

However, as much as I like Fly, I don't think it's the best call for a next single. I know this may not go over very well with fellow Basers, but I realy don't think it's 'single' material.

I agree with 'ewallman' - Last Night is a solid tune... but it's not single material. Just like Fly is a great song - I, personally, can't get enough of it - but I'm not sure it's single material. I just mean, I'm not sure if it will get as much radio play as a song like In View.

I realize the hip probably don't really care about radio play at this point in their careers. I also realize a lot of people don't like In View. Having said that, In View is a radio friendly song and has, therefor, had a lot of radio play. As much as I love the new album (it has only left my stereo for an "all Hip + Gord Downie solo MP3 CD" since the day it came out), it's not really radio friendly.

Let's face it - it's not 1993 anymore. If I had my way World Container would be songs #1-11 on your local radio countdown.

I don't know what radio station everyone listens to, but there's this song call "My Humps" by this band called "The Black Eyed Peas" which got the majority of the radio play this summer. That's all I have to say about "popular music" these days.

Incase there's any doubt from anyone reading this, I'm not bashing the hip. And as for any negative comments I may receive from this post, all I have to say is this - :thumb:

PS: Sens 7, Leafs 2!!!!!!
It's gonna be another long year in TO

Though LEOTR isn't the song I want to be released as the next single, it's the one that should be because it's what most people want, which is why I voted for it.

Gah! How can you not like the Rink??? Loved it even more after Gord told the story about how his brother got him to write it (Oct. 25th Toronto#3 show).

The next single would have to be radio friendly - for instance, as much as I love Drop Off, "Holy fuck it's Jesus" probably wouldn't go over too well with some listeners. I hope it's Luv Sic, Family Band or Fly.
