• Gord Downey: The Tragically Hip singer plays a cop in the Trailer Park Boys movie. Ricky, Julian and Bubbles appear in his band’s video for The Darkest One.

There, that feels much better. The stress from the day relieved with one comment. Smile

Cheers,

Pat

Although the context of my post was lost somewhere in translation, I'll bite in regards to your comment. I am still unable to come up with a good example, but I have heard a debut single from some bands, liked the sound only to find out that the rest of the album is nothing like it.

And as much as you apparently hate Bedouin Soundclash.. both bands have to thank Kingston and Queen's University somewhere or else they wouldn't have come to be. They may have more in common than you think. You even share a name with their drummer. Smile

The band is great, but face facts - Downie is the MAN, the charismatic powerhouse that rivets your attention even when he's just (I dunno) scratching his armpit or whatever. That's the nature of charisma; it's the same way that you can't take your eyes off Brando whenever he's on the screen. So putting Downie front and centre is basic marketing 101, and, come to think of it, I find it astounding that this wasn't done from the outset.

Yeah, that's nothing I don't already know, but the Hip have never been just about Gord and all the adulation he receives. He's has never been singled out before any other album was released, as the so-called voice of the Hip. The icing on the cake for me was his solo appearance in the video.

After 20ish years I find it bizarre that they choose this time to present Gord, rather than the band, to Canada and the world.
