In View = A Christian Song?
#16

Chris Tanz Wrote:I thought Into the Night was about Paul

Then it woulda said,
"We had a long ass-kicking, that went on well into the night."

And it would have been a chorus of children singing the song... in memory of their parents... who had their asses kicked by Paul.

But actually yeah, maybe Into The Night is about God. I can just see him going to some people "what the hell do YOU want?"

Cheers,

Pat

Yeah. It's a relationship song. If you want the relationship to be with God, it's God. If you want it to be with your hairdresser...

He'd kick your ass so hard you'd hear everything backwards for a week.

I'm by no means a religious fanatic, but after going to a Christian grammar school and high school, I'm relatively sure of one thing. A God fearing Christian would never put the word F*ck and Jesus in the same sentence as in "Holy F*ck it's Jesus" from The drop-off.

Just my opinion I could be wrong.

What if it's two separate sentences? Consider: "Holy fuck! It's Jesus!"

Punctuation could end up being the key to eternal salvation.

I really liked both the God and the Daughters interpretations...as in, they both made good sense...my take is this: Regardless of whatever religious feelings Gord may have, I doubt that he'd ever write a connection to God tune such as this one..that being said, Gord as an artist may well choose to write a song from the perspective of someone connecting to God...However, one thing we all know, is that Gord rarely writes easily decipherable, straightforward lyrics about a single topic that delivers a singular message...his lyrics are usually very indepth, nuanced, and touch on a variety of subjects...For example, look at Nautical Disaster: Is it about a sinking boat??? Is it about war? Is it a love song??? Is it all of the above???
I guess I'm just really saying that In View could be about God and his kids, and the symbolism involved in relationships with those who we hold dear, be they sentient or spiritual beings....maybe it's about being too damn lazy to pick up or answer the phone!!!! With gord's use of metaphor and simile, it's very tough to be sure about any 1 meaning to a song!!
