F-U MONTREAL!
#16

I read the first two lines of your post and felt bad for you, but then I read the rest of it, and now I don't. I'm pretty sure you just left your keys on the dashboard. Next year visit Detroit, from what I've seen from their FOX TV news feed, its a hell of a town (but beware, the city is built upon French culture). ahhhh... C'est la Vie...

It really sucks that your car was stolen, and I'm sorry...but to blame a whole culture?? I'm French-Canadian, and I know for a fact that Montreal is one of the greatest cities in the world.
However, this happens everywhere...Detroit, New York, Seattle, L.A., Charlottle, etc. When I hear a car was stolen in Detroit, I don't start judging the whole state...just some people making bad choices.

btw, Montreal Bagels are the best bagels around.

wtf does poutine have to do with your car getting stolen?

I live in Montreal 8 months out of the year. The city isn't as great as most people think when you actually live there and the government is kind of useless - that's true enough.

But this shit happens everywhere, man. Skippy said it perfectly, re-read his post.

Were you staying at the delta on Sherbrooke near Parc?

OK. I take back the food insults.

But a 2% return rate on stolen vehicles. Come on???? The police can't figure out where these thiefs are taking these cars. Maybe more sercurity around the docks where these cars are being shipped out.

I'm just warning everybody.

A 2% return rate shows no control and lax standards.

What is the return rate in Buffalo? Or any major North American city for that matter? Let's see a source for these stats so we can really understand why you're so angry with Montreal.

According to the article, 67% return in US compared to 2% return in Canada. Which means these cars are often shipped out of Canada the same day that they are stolen. They end up in either South America or Eastern Europe.

It's not just some kids going for a joy ride. These are professional gangs which operate beyond the police's control.

Here's another article:

That "other article" is more than 4 years old. I'm not saying it's not relevant, but it is outdated.

Montréal, much like any other major city has a problem with organized crime. Hell's Angels in particular operate out of Québec. If I were going to set up a ring of stealing cars in Canada and shipping them overseas, I'd do it in Montréal too. It's a port town, on the mouth of the St. Lawrence river and there's no bigger city close to the ocean.

If it's an organized group, then your car was probably on a list (Gone in 60 Seconds style). They don't steal your car unless they know they have a buyer. And let's face it, if someone really wants you car, wallet, identity, life, whatever - they'll get it. What were you driving?

If you wish to escape crime, live in the woods and don't come out of your house. How many cars are stolen each day? Obviously if you're in a larger city (canadian or not), you're going to be more exposed to such crimes. You should see the Montréal hookers!

Anyways... like people have said... it sucks, yes. But it could have happend anywhere.

I just spoke to my car dealer, this is the 4th car from his dealership stolen in Montreal in the last month. Two of the others belonged to Jay McKee and Martin Biron.

Montreal police are usless!

That is who my problem is with.

Times Square in NYC was a crime ridden 10 years ago. The mayor took action and now it is much safer.

Canada needs to realize that it can't sit back and assume all is well and safe.

NY state rental companies won't allow renters to take cars to Montreal anymore.

This is a city-wide problem.

When I told my insurance, car dealer and car rental that my car was stolen, they all said, "Let me guess, Montreal?" coincidence?

Think what you want, once again, this just a warning to you all.

Yeah because Hamilton is SOOOOOOOOO much better.

Getting your shit stolen sucks anywhere, especialy when out of town/country. The crime ring sucks not the Country/city. And call the cops bitches..where's that get you. They have a job. Stolen cars are never top prority anyway. And if it's the 4th car from that dealership....do you think maybe they have something to do w/the ring????????? Or it's Mckee, he got out of town quick didn't he Tongue

And WOW do you canuks stand up for your country..... :thumb: Good for you. But fuck you too in thinking your country/ways are the ONLY way to go. America is in NO way perfect, but niether is Canada. That being said I'd live in both countries over ANY other in this fine mess of a world. Plus Canadian beer RULES ALL!

Dude, I understand it sucks to have your car gripped, but man-up and quit misplacing your frustration. Cars get stolen everywhere, every day. Yours is now one of them.

Quit blaming the city and try to learn a lesson:

Rent a car when visiting unfamiliar cities, and don't leave valuables in it.

You really ought to know that anyway.
