Couldn't agree more! Blaming the lockout for the poor play of certain players is getting old. And using the big ice as an excuse is just plain idiotic.

As for the players, the only guy that deserves a medal is Marty Brodeur. Nobody else bothered to show up (not to mention the fact that they couldn't stay out of the freakin' box). Pronger sucks, Bertuzzi is a bum, and what the f**k was Bryan McCabe doing on this team??

You can't have it both ways - you can't complain that guys who have played well in the NHL this season (like Crosby, Stall, Spezza, Phaneuf) deserved a spot on the team while the guy who was leading NHL d-men in points until he got hurt had no place on the team. McCabe's play in the NHL this season got him on the taxi squad. Injuries to Jovo (aka McCabe West) and Niedermayer put him on the team.

It was nice of Bertuzzi to take one of his patented stupid penalties leading to Ovechkin's PP goal. I thought that was a nice touch.

I think that this team would have been better on the small ice surfaces in North America, but they got exposed as too big and too slow on the wide international ice.

As far as the CBC is concerned

Errr, I didn't blame Bertuzzi for the loss - the whole offense deserves to be blamed - Nash looked lost, Iginla wasn't himself, etc etc etc. I was merely saying that I thought it was a nice touch that the biggest criticism of Bertuzzi's game is what led to the GWG.

Anyway, I can't wait for the experts to spend the next four seasons telling us what's wrong with CDN hockey. It's gonna be a blast! :roll:

i know you weren't blaming bert..but ron mclean has mentioned that penalty at least 4 times since the game has ended, and harped on bert much more than any other player

I think that the only way that Crosby, Staahl or Phaneuf would have made difference is if they had shown up to play. No one on this team put forth a great effort. Think about it: Heatly, Iginla, Nash etc...are all great players, but didn't perform.
Why? who knows.
You can pick and pull a player here for a player there, but if a team doesn't play well, they do not win.

Brodeur did play fantastic in net. I admit I am on record as saying Pronger is the best D-man in the NHL. However, he didn't play well in this Olympic tournament, that's for sure. I still think he is the best D-man and he just had a BAD tournament and he is probably too slow at this point in his career on the big ice surface. Pronger being an Oiler wouldn't have anything to do with the statement, "Pronger sucks" would it?
