Do you have a MP3 player?

ALmost bought an adapter for my car, but instead got a deck that plays MP3 disks. 700 MB of MP3s is almost as good, but I don't have to worry about getting my Pod ripped off...

I lamented how the hell I was going to get my player to play in the car, because I have an old CD player with no changer connection in the rear, and FM modulators suck.

This past weekend I bought a power inverter. I now have a small, but powerful, set of amplified speakers plugged into the inverter, and the speakers on the floor of the back seat. I line out my player to the speakers and it works beautifully. I'm not worried about people being in the backseat and hitting the speakers with their feet beause it is my work car, not the regular mobile. I found though, that I didn't have a "full sound" coming from just the two speakers. I have a small Sony surround speaker that I aquired from somewhere but never used, and I ran a speaker wire to it and placed it right in front of my gear shifter. (there is a perfect spot for it as it is such a small speaker) Now I have sound from the front and back, and it works perfectly. It isn't ideal, but almost. I have even managed to hide all the wires and cables under the console or the seat.

Speaking of iPods....

United Airlines announced today that it will celebrate the fifth anniversary of its Canadian Web site with a contest that gives away three iPod minis, a 20GB iPod and a grand prize of roundtrip tickets for travel from Canada to any of the more than 150 destinations United flies in the continental US.

"We are pleased to celebrate the fifth anniversary of our local Canadian site with this opportunity for our customers to win one of several great prizes," said Richard Carret, manager-Passenger Sales for Canada. "For the last five years, the local site has tailored the United experience to our Canadian customers' needs, by offering them many of the excellent features available on our main site, while also enabling them to book a trip and get fare quotes in Canadian currency."

To enter, you'll need to answer a "skill testing question" and fill out an entry form before Sept 9, 2005. Winners will be chosen via random drawing. No purchase is required. The promotion is open to all residents of Canada (excluding Quebec) who are 18 years of age or older. Complete rules and an entry form is available at the Sweepstakes site.

And for those who are a little more technically inclined, hackers have been running Linux on their iPods for a while now (allowing them to play games, watch videos, play other formats, etc, etc) and now a simple two step installer has been created.

Check it out here

Or how about this new offering from Sony???

Sony's Walkman Bean music player, shown larger than actual size in the lefthand image, contains 1GB of memory, a built-in USB connector and a one-line EL display. It's expected to retail for $179 USD.

I got the same deal but with Hotel miles. I also can not imagine life without it due that I travel for work close to 100K per year and when I am in the office, I have a 1hr drive from home. Yeah I got the FM modulator and it seems to work fine other that the volume sucks.

I also have a 128M MP3 player and I added another 128 of memory thatI added that I use to use for running but now I have filled my IPOD and now I use the IPOD for everything. My only issue is that I have tons more of my CD's to rip and have no memory left.

I'm in the same boat, so I've started to archive my music onto DVD and then rotate stuff onto my player. Takes a little bit of time but at least it allows me to change things around and retain my collection.

I got a 20GB iRiver at the after Christmas sales last year and I love it. It makes life so much easier on long car or plane trips, since you don't have to fiddle with changing cd's or whatever. I was especially happy to have it a few months ago when I got stuck for hours in the Atlanta airport as massive storms rolled through. Found a corner to hide in, turned on the Hip, and was transported far away from the craziness around me. :music

Hey, has anyone seen this little puppy (er...more like canine embryo) yet?

It's a mobiBLU DAH 1500i Cube MP3 Player.

[Image: mobiblu1xp.th.jpg][Image: mobibluu5mt.th.jpg]

It's freakin' tiny!

Just released in the US & available at WalMart.com. $129.72 for 1GB model and $99.72 for 512 MB model.

Pretty sweet.

That's incredibly small. Holy crap. Mind you, I'd be afraid of losing it. Or my kid eating it.

I have that exact mp3 player! I got mine as a Christmas gift and love it. I have tons of music on it and still have a lot of free space left. I don't know much about mp3 player software so I wouldn't know if it was crap or not. It does the job so I have no complaints.

Seriously though, having the whole collection ripped to the hard drive has been fantastic.
