Tragically Hip Frequent Frequencies
#16

97.7 HTZ FM in St.Catharines used to be a good station. It stinks now. The on air people are clueless, and I can still remember when M@W came out they played it's premier and basically tore it apart, then AC/DC comes out with "Hard as A Rock", and they actually played it back to back, the same song for its broadcast premeiere. Since that day, I've lost respect for that station...

NO ONE plays more Hip than KRock...

Ah, the mighty KRock. Home of Kingston's most famous cougar, Nancy Slater.

When I had a car at school, it was really the only station on my presets from outside of Toronto (I stopped listening to CFRC when they wouldn't hire me). One of the first times I really listened to Krock they played Put it Off, which proved I wasn't in Kansas anymore. During the 5-6 hour every day they "Head Home with the Hip" or something like that.

While I agree with Dame, they played too much of the lame CanCon, they certainly support their fair share of local talents, and often would surprise the hell out of you with some song selections (like how they were probably the first station in Canada outside of Toronto to pick up No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age). And if anyone has the acoustic version of Sloan's "The Other Man", it was recorded at the KRock studios.

I too remember the Hip half hours on 97.7. In the lead up to the last ARA both 97 and Q 107 went insane with Hip and it was great (and eight years ago -- wow). The Q was the best though, the day of ARA they did the Hip A to Z and played all the songs up until that point in alphabetical order. It was one great long afternoon.

Cheers

Pat

Here in the Detroit area, 89X from windsor used to play The Hip way back during the BTH and Fully era but now the band is pretty much regulated to the Sunday night "Canadian Exports" show. When a new song does come out from them, it unfortunately is featured on the stations song battle progam "the Peoples Choice"...against the likes of Good Charlette or Eminems latest. You can only imagine the 15 year old girls calling the station and giving the votes to the latter....

"Good Life", did get some air play however for a while. :thumb:

Living in the states it's hard to say. But since I do live near the border I do catch a lot of hip tunes on The Bear but I'd have to say local station 106.7 WIZN "The Wizard of Rock" out of Burlington VT it the best for the hip. They always sponsor the shows in the area and play great music all day. Everything from Rush to Zep to Floyd to Gov't Mule and of course Hip. I'm proud to say that I live in an area of the states (Upstate NY) where Das Hip is respected. I've never been out at a bar where a band is playing that I didn't hear a Hip cover.

Just in case you missed it Lance, your site got a plug this morning on the radio! I was listening to Power 97 this morning and Lochlin Cross told a story about how his first date with his wife was a Hip concert at the Commodore in '91 but they were arguing about the exact date. So he searched online and got a link to this site. He said he sent you mail and you replied right away - he even got your name right and everything Smile He thought it was super cool that you were from Winnipeg and that you might be able to get audio from that show he was at. He sounded all impressed with the site and mentioned the address on air as well. Pretty damn good publicity if you as me! :thumb:

Shane Kroeker Wrote:For myself I would say Power 97 in Winnipeg, Manitoba would be the most frequent player of the Tragically Hip. Every weekday morning at 11am Central (12pm EST), a segment called "Power Hip Pocket" has Hip fans phone or email their favourite Hip track for the day. One request will be played and radios across the province are simultaneously cranked up. You can listen live to Power 97 over the internet at http://www.power97.com, or Star Choice and Bell Express Vu Satellite also carry their streams.
Power 97 now has a list of which Hip songs have been played recently for the Power Hip Pocket. Check it out for yourself to make a request that hasn't been played in a while!

A station up in Peterborough, ON with the annoying John Gallagher dj'ing seems to play a lot of Hip. Gallagher seems to think he has an inside edge with Johnny Fay since he knows Katherine Humphries so well. He likes to mention that as much as he can. I think those hair plugs of his caused more damage than he'll ever know.

Living in jersey on the PP tour I was happy to hear an interview and a live set on 104.3 NY and even better at the show that night I knocked on the promo van's window and asked for extras tix and the guy who was on the cell opened up a portfolio and said here you go. A great hip day and night.....

Gotcha Wrote:Y108, and 97.7 hip fm, both in south western ont, play the most hip in our region.

Yep. Y108 definately. Q107 plays some, too, but not as much as Y108.

Why don't you rig your stereo through your computer speakers and listen to the Canadian stations online? With the time difference and CanCon regulations i'm sure you could be hearing a lot of Hip being played...

I have the best radio station in the country. 98.3 cifm, kamloops best rock.
We get to hear plenty of hip, as well as everthing else you need. 2 of the 4 hip shows i've seen i won the tickets free!
i also like the fact that they play foo fighters and pearl jam twice as much as kiss and def leppard!
and i do hope opiated and leo can remain deeply in love, pyschic analysis or not...party on!

The KRock in Edmonton (97.3) used to ALWAYS play the Hip. Something has happened lately, and now they play more nirvana and metallica. Station has gone to the birds.
I just listen to CD's now.
