I think it would look pretty bad on Canada if they didn't put anything together for this. The US, Britain, France, Italy and Germany are already involved. That's over half and Canada, Britain and Germany are known for usually being the most active G8 members. I'm sure they'll throw something together and would be pretty disappointed if they didn't.

Going by the Hints Q107 was dropping today, it looks like the Stones will play in Toronto for Live 8. I am sure others will follow suit.

Toronto Live 8 announcement imminent
Canadian Live 8 concert organizers say Toronto is the "logical" place for the historic July 2 event and they have a "spectacular" lineup. But with two weeks to go, who would take part -- and the location -- were in question as the mechanics of putting together such a massive concert were still being worked out yesterday. A spokesperson for World Vision Canada, one of several organizations connected with Bob Geldof's anti-poverty Live 8 campaign, said an earlier statement suggesting an announcement would come today was premature. "I think we're very close to an announcement," Philip Maher, senior communications manager for World Vision, said yesterday. Maher said concert promoter Michael Cohl, one of the major players behind the 2003 SARS benefit concert, is calling the shots.

Really? If that's true, it makes no sense at all. The Stones would already be in town, and the main promoter behind the Canadian Live 8 is the same guy that they deal with everytime they come to North America. I find it weird that they wouldn't want to do it.

I just heard on the radio that it's gonna be in Barrie at Park Place the old Molson Park, and they were saying that CTV was making a big deal last night about getting the Hip to headline the event. I hope this is true. Apparently a press conference is scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10:00am.

And while the venue is still unclear, so is the line-up. Bryan Adams and Billy Talent are definitely on the roster, and there are indications the Barenaked Ladies, Avril Lavigne, Our Lady Peace, the Tragically Hip and Blue Rodeo have also been contacted.

But the expected headliners won’t be there. The Rolling Stones will be rehearsing for their world tour in Toronto next month, but have a scheduling problem that will prevent their participation.

Signs Point To Barrie For July Concert

There are more indications this weekend that next month's Live 8 concert will bypass Toronto and head to Barrie. Barrie Mayor Rob Hamilton refuses to confirm any decision prior to a news conference scheduled for Tuesday. However, he says Park Place (the former Molson Park site) has ordered scores of portable toilets for July 2, while officers with Barrie City Police had been advised they may be needed that day.

In addition, the concert promoter has applied for an exemption to the city's noise bylaw, while a Kitchener-based caterer is advertising for staff on the same day as the scheduled event.

I hope they really do the concert. I really thought the last time I would see the Hip there was Sept 03. Nothing better than getting up in Barrie early and tailgating under the sun.
