das_hips Wrote:As much as I truly enjoy Mike McCready's (Pearl Jam) lead guitar talent I've always found myself comparing Robby and Mike as to who is the better lead guitarist... a few years back I felt it was quite clearly Mike McCready... but in the last years, upon complete saturation of the Tragically Hip, its quite apparent that Rob is just as good, if not better...
That's an interesting debate, das_hips. Pearl Jam is my band; even my love for the Hip can't compare to my love for Pearl Jam, who I've seen live twelve times and for whom driving nine hours is nothing these days. Mike McCreedy, meanwhile, is an undeniable guitar hero; his lead work is amazing, but it's his live performances that make him the legend that he is. That said, Robbie dominates the In Between Evolution album, and there's no doubt he's a live force to be reckoned with. Moreover, he used to be my neighbour...so really, I have to take that into consideration don't I? 8) So where does this leave me? I don't know. I think I'll still give the edge to 'Creedy--just finished listening to last year's 3 1/2 hour State College show--but I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say.
Steve...because really, what better way to put off reading a book about consumer activism than talking about Pearl Jam/the Tragically Hip?
