My Own Personal History of Rock
#16

Foxfires Wrote:Well - anyone who actually took the time to read my post would hopefully see the difference between my writing, and that.

If lengthy posts overwhelm you, then feel free to move on to other threads... I don't mind. Smile

No no, I didn't mean to imply that your post overwhelmed me. I think your post is great, and there's a HUGE difference between your post and the daily navel gazing that goes on over at alt.music.tragically-hip with Whorella. :thumb:

Okay someone explain to me who this Whorella is. Where is she? tragically-hip-dot-alt-net something? I've never been there but what does she do, just post a bunch of bullshit diary stuff into the Hip discussions? That's gotta be frigging annoying. I don't mind reading stuff, so anybody, feel free to post lengthily (is that a word?). But I wouldn't be clogging up the Hip with my personal stuff...

Okay, you know what I did today? I've been working on a book since I was 16. Yeah, 16!! 5 years. I have had a recent flash of inspiration and I am making excellent progress. So I sat around on the computer all day, wrote about 5000 words and drank two pots of coffee. At 4 I helped my dad put a new AC in and I ate a sandwich and watched Star Trek Voyager. But am I gonna post this crap into the Hip discussion? No. Whoopty-fricking-doo! Oh, yeah, and I smoked like a whole pack of smokes. What a jam-packed frigging day!

lord brazle Wrote:Foxfires ~ don't mind them. For some, the passionate exploitation of words is something to be feared cuz some, and mostly guys, are bent on the idea that appreciation for something as fragile as poetry is a weakness, when in turn, they are weak because they fear weakness, bringing them to the knees of the beast that is called "the poetically-ironic". I posted a poetry thread here awhile ago to see if maybe Gord's poetry/lyrics actually attracted like-minded individuals to the Hip and very few responded seriously. Everybody has an opinion so I wouldn't let it deter you. I like it. I've viewed your site and, although some pics weren't up yet, I like it, too. I can see you have a creative edge. Wanna see my writings? Not alot up yet but could prove enjoyable...

i ain't afraid of anything that she said, and poetry certainly doesn't scare me..i just found it to be boring, and was scared of another Whorella, who if you'd been a party to seeing, would understand...i just don't like overblown pretensious bullshit

Heh! It's okay. If someone reads my post and finds it "overblown pretensious bullshit" - that's fine with me. I just think the sarcasm of my title was lost on some. The contents are anything but pretentious. I was just writing my own discovery of rock from a kid's eyes. I truly *was * freaked out by Elton John's album covers!! (which was stated somewhere in the middle of what I wrote, so you may not have read that far. Tongue )

But anyway, to each his own. You find me boring... that's cool. Guess that means you won't feel the need to post on any more of my threads then. Smile Wink

It's the usenet newsgroup. I first became aware of it in 1997, but I believe it's been up and running since 1994 or earlier. You can access it either through the "newsgroup" option on your e-mail provider, or by searching the Google newsgroups I believe.

It was at one time THE place to get together and talk Hip and find out all the pertinant info. It's were we found out about secret locations for the 1998 Camp Trilium Shows before they were announced to the public.

Casey steered me here, and I've since been pointing many of the other diehards in this direction.

This site has rendered the NG obsolete, and today it's really just me, Chris, Dana and Whorella... we're thinking of starting a reality show.

So is it still up and running?
Are people still over there talking about the Hip and not here?

I stumbled upon the hipbase here about a year ago and I just basically read what people were talking about, I only started posting and talking to people a couple of months ago. Before I found the hipbase I just pretty much surfed, although i never came across the Newsgroup...

Yeah, that was a disappointment wasn't it? I know more people than just us write the stuff, but most people were squeamish about posting. It didn't help that the first people to post in response were subject to unhealthy criticism that seemed to come out of the blue... seriously, it killed the vibe... maybe you should try again.

Yeah, that was all my fault too. Maybe we should give it another go...
