Just like Fiddler's Green, they'll never play 38 Years Old again. The familial connection puts that off the list. Especially in Kingston.

I thought about that before I changed my vote, and I have to disagree.
I think that it's quite clear today that the song is fiction, and any trouble it caused must have blown over by now. Plus, I don't think there's a "sacred" reason for not playing it, (i.e. the death of a nephew) as relates to Fiddlers.
I think one night only, back home in Kingston, would be the perfect spot for the return of 38 Years Old.

Heard Thugs in Boston in '02, and it was well worth the wait. Time has done that song well, and it appeared like the boys LOVED playing it. That's a good choice.

I have feeling folks, just a gut feeling, that they may throw out an oldie we haven't heard in a while. We'll go too was a great surprise, and you never know that something even older and more rare than that one may get pulled out.

Can someone enlighten me as to the story behind Fiddler's Green, this reference to the deceased nephew is the first I've heard of it :oops: I'm sure there are others out there who are also in my position. This could eliminate a potentially embarassing backstage "Hey Gordie, I really like Fiddler's Green why don't you play that song anymore" situation.

As best I can remember from the ol burning church:
Fiddler’s Green: Gord’s sister lost her son at a young age on September 17, 1990. Gord wrote “Fiddler’s Green” for her, in memory of his deceased nephew. The Fiddler’s Green is a place in Celtic lore where young sailors go when they die. Gord and Paul played it (either for her or at the the funeral itself, I don't recall exactly) and recorded a version during the Road Apples sessions.
The song was never meant to be heard in public, but Gord’s sister asked that the song be placed on the album. There is some conjecture over whether another beautiful song called “Get Back Again” was taken off of Road Apples and replaced with “Fiddler’s Green.”
The band has never played FG live, and Gord says they never will. “It’s his song.”
The Stereophonics do a really nice job covering it.

Knew I could count on you Stephen...That's a hell of a story.
I'm surprised that the Stereoponics even cover that song, if I were in their shoes I would respect the meaning of the song and keep it where it should be...off the playlist. But that's just me.
