The greatest thing I ever saw at a Hip show...add yours!

They walk on stage, and a simple "Hello"...

...and that's all we need....

Well said.

That always makes me smile too...

And ya have to love that sheepish, "What, all this for us?" look on Gord's face when he says it.

And, am I the only one who answers the phone and greets people with the same "Hello...?" Smile

1) Gord murdering hundreds of unsuspecting balloons on New Years Eve '99 during a 20-minute version of Meridian. That was the single funniest thing I've ever seen him do on stage.

"This isn't rock n' roll. This is genocide!"

Haha!! I was so totally there!! Toronto New Years Eve 2k! LOL! You're so right, he went mental... he was chasing balloons and jumping on them all over the stage, it was bloody hilarious!

Febuary 19th,1995- My 1st and best concert I've been too. They did this wicked deadly powerful version of 50 Mission Cap, the stadium for the most part was dark for the whole gig but when they hit that" AND I KEEP IT TUCKED UP UNDERRRRR" and man they nailed it wicked, every song that night actually, but 50 sealed it, every house light came on and the Saddledome went berserk/nuttz whatever you want to call it! I just didn't expect that. Me and my bro and his bro kinda looked at each other and otherz beside us and you knew that whole stadium found love that fateful night....even before the 1st encore I've never heard a crowd so loud! I love gigz in Cowtownia :music, but I think that whole DFN tour they were literally kickin ass and takin namez in every town they played

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

Maybe not the "greatest" thing but I thought it was cool.

Last time they were in Minneapolis, they played First Avenue. It was mid July and it was about 98 degress outside when the show started. Unfortunately, the air conditioning at the club was out of order due to an electrical wiring mishap. By the time the guys hit the stage, it was about 110 degress in the building.

GD stood center stage with his Guild strung over his shoulders and sweated the entire show. And, every once in a while, he would take his left hand off the guitar's neck and dump the puddle of sweat that had formed in his palm onto the floor. Never missed a beat and the boys pounded out a solid 19-song set.

And, of course, at the end of the show they all dragged their sweat-soaked bodies off stage. Except for Rob, who breezily exited the stage as if he were walking out of a restaurant, totally unmussed and looking fresh as a daisy.

One of my greatest Hip moments occurred through pure luck. Years and years ago I attended a Hip show at Marine Midland Arena with a friend. To our surprise and dread the arena was not serving any alcohol. Needless to say we were bummed. An hour and half before the show we're walking around the arena aimlessly, I looked down and saw a ticket on the floor, I picked it up and to my surprise found that it was a Private Box Ticket. I told my friend to wait downstairs and I went up to the box to ascertain who occupied the box. The box belonged to the Toronto Raptors and the occupants were all radio contest winners. Once in the box, I saw beer and wine galore and all the food you could eat. Everyone greeted me and said their congrats for winning the contest. I told them that in the commotion entering the arena my friend had dropped his ticket and was waiting downstairs, a guy on the other side of the box said the same thing happened to his friend(obviously the ticket I was now using). As everyone was in a really good mood I just asked if anyone would mind lending me two tickets to get my friend and the other guy’s friend in, two guys obliged and I met my friend and the other guy’s friend downstairs and we all walked up to the box, without a problem. Once in the box, I ordered a case of beer, 2 bottles of wine, and wings all compliments of the Raptors. The concert was awesome and it was great having beer while the rest of the arena was without. At the end of the show we walked out and no one ever found out what a scam we pulled it was classic.

I'll have to go with Stephen Dame and say that "Here come the tits" was definitely one of the chart toppers for me.

That, or everytime I hear the line "Get Ry Cooder to sing my eulogy".

My greatest Hip moment...so far

In May of 1999 my wife and I decided to head down to Myrtle Beach for a week of R&R. I had been to Myrtle many times over the years, but this was my wife's first trip. We were driving back to our hotel after a round of golf, when we had to stop for a red light, which happened to be at the Barefoot Landing entertainment complex in North Myrtle. I look up at the sign and catch "HOB tonight only The Tragically Hip"! In disbelief, I pull over and wait for the message to roll again (it took about a minute). Keep in mind that I did not have internet access during this period and had absolutely no idea that the Hip were even touring down south...this was a total fluke! Needless to say, both the band and the venue made this an amazing evening/trip. Ever since then, we have tried to PLAN a trip like this...2002 at HOB Orlando and 2004 at HOB ???

Somerville, 7/26/02: every light in the place goes dead. Stage drenched in darkness. Someone must have tripped over the wrong plug. But the band keeps playing three songs, in total blackness.

Then, during Hundredth Meridian, someone hands Gord a penlight. Next thing, he lies down on the stage, light illuminating just his face, still singing: this egg-shaped, grimacing, shaven, sideways head, floating like an island in a sea of night.

It was actually a little disappointing when the lights came back up.

it's tough to pick a "single" moment from all the shows i've seen..but one that stands out right now was during the PP tour, i travelled down to seattle and during the encore, up comes Steve Berlin with a Sax...what followed left me in a trance..the slowest..sexiest So Hard Done By you could imagine...it must have lasted ten minutes..they follow this with the coolest NOIS i've ever seen, mixed with Jet by Paul Mccartney/Wings...i was absolutely shell-shocked...jaw dropping, mouth wide open kind of moment...thank you tragically hip..thank you....

ps..for all the people out west, here's a quick one..at thunderbird stadium when a plane flies overhead with a "subway..eat fresh" (or whatever the slogan was back then.,..) Gord looks up and says "oh look..Bruce Allen has a new job!) allen and the hip..not the best of friends

Myself and Casey were there for the last two nights, and I think I can speak for both of us and say: boy are we sorry we missed that!

Gord forgetting the words to Pigeon Camera and asking those of us up front for help is a nice Sommerville memory too...

i've only seen two hip shows down here in carolina --both were at ziggys in winston-salem--one on 5-21?96---tathh tour--no one was there(!)--maybe 300 people in a 650 person -2x4 construction of a barn/stage/roadhouse.---(this equals,-- room to jam!!) --the second time like 2 years later the place was packed..hot as hell and sticky like all nc nights tend to be.--great show and everyones groovin--they play------ bobcaygeon and 1/16th go for a beer.--im standing 3 or 4 shoulders back in the middle of a slightly swaying crowd, with all hands down w/ beer or smokes, or whatever.--anyway i'm feelin it, and right at the crest of the song--"that night in taaronoooh.....and their voices raaaang, with that aryan twaaaaaaang." i slowly raise my hand,,as if ready to answer all the questions at once ---totally lost in the groove and oblivious to the crowd.. after the lyric Gord says:"hey you, I see you..." the guy in front of me, turns around and looks at me.-I look at Gord and he's lookin right at me.---he says " yeah,.....you get it don't you?"------------------It wuz dead cool!---we both held the gaze for a moment and then mellowed jammed for the rest of the song.---------------------------------it was like" hey gene.......,,Lets lay down that cowbell track,, right now......TOGETHER!."
