i think gord did an adequate job...i think a pitch pipe would have been a good idea becuase it seems like he just started singing any note and it happened to be too high but whatever, most of the people probably didnt/dont know who he is

Lets face it, he went in with a sense of humour about it, had a good time, probably shocked a few people, and walked away smiling. Who cares if it sounded a little ridiculous. National anthems sound and are a pretty ridiculous, what do you expect. Theres no doubt in my mind that he saw the comical, ironic side of it all, and said 'why not, could be fun'.
anyone notice his slight pause and little grin before going on to say 'god keep our land....'
gold.

to me it made me even more proud to be canadian...that was great..understated, to the point, no messing around..gord is a good ol' canadian boy, who sums up what us canadians love about our nation, he's out there doin' it, and people are running it down? i'd take that version over any of the "over the top" versions of the american anthem, or god forbid Jann arden at that flames/canucks game in the playoffs...gord did us proud, and we should all stand up and cheer for him...thank you gord for making me proud to be canadian...

It could not possibly have been any worse than Jan Arden during the Calgary-Vancouver series of the playoffs.

At first I was suprised when I heard this. I mean...in terms of what you expect from the national anthem...this was out there.
But like someone else said, it sounded like Gord. He didn't embellish, he didn't polish, he just went out there and belted that mother out.
I think he sang it better than maybe...my dad could have. haha
Honestly though, seeing that video...was just surreal. Who would have thought?

After seeing the video portion, I liked the version a bit better. He had some usual 'Gord' expressions, the pause before certain phrases in the anthem was great. But still, the voice itself was cracky. But it did sound like Gord, unaltered.

I FINALLY heard it and saw it!
You all want to know what? Something went wrong.
Do any of you even know what went wrong?
Cuz I do. I can tell you, without a doubt, what went wrong. I should know....
Watch the video or listen to the song as you read this...
Hear that gasping? That's Gord out of breath...
I said it before in a post somewhere about high singers and low singers.
If Gord would've slowed it down, he would have mastered it.
Whether he got nervous or not, I don't know.
What I can tell you is that he's trying to sing loud by forcing more air into that mic.
Maybe he didn't practice? Maybe he did his usual voice warm-ups and thought nothing of it?
Someone mentioned that grin he had... Cuz he knew he was screwing up.
Sort of like, "Oh my God, what am I doing?" jokingly to himself...
80% of Canada couldn't've have done it as good as Gord did anyway.

If you haven't seen it...

Bottom link, there's a video.
It did have a bit of a surreal quality to it, and it didn't come off as awesome or anything but sorry, sounded like Gord to me and I'm pretty sure I remember how the national anthem goes and he had all the right notes, listen carefully, he may have "Gordified" one or two, but they're all there.
