Most emotional Hip songs
#16

Throwing Off Glass ranks right up there in my opinion with an emtional Hip song. A guy trying to show to his daugter that there is beauty in the world while at the same time trying to explain there is evil and just plain stupidity in that same world.

I LOVE that song. The melody, the lyrics, Gord's singing. The entire thing is absolutely beautiful. Paul's main riff is so simple, yet so effective, and I love Robby's guitar harmonics during the verses.

Escape also grabs me.

But some of the older tunes also have a place inside me because they bring back various memories from my teens and early 20's.

When the Weight Comes Down, She Didn't Know, Thugs (from Kumbaya) are some of the few that revive old memories.

Heaven Is A Better Place Today

I mean taking that song in after realizing everything that happened with Heatley and Snyder is very emotional.

Also have to go with,
Fiddler's, Escape, Wheat Kings, and Yawning or Snarling

Drez, I couldn't agree more

When it gets to the line:

"Don't say people lose people all the time anymore" I get pretty fired up and emotional

Love that song....it is so early but I really wonder which of my 4 favorites from IBE will end up on top --> Heaven, Josephine, Scar and You Are Everywhere

Wow.
When I read this, the first thing that popped in my mind was Fire in the Hole.
I say this song stirs up plenty of emotion.
I always have such a great high leaving a concert when it is ended with this song.
And, nothing really gets my blood boiling in life, but this song sure lets me know wat it would feel like.

"We're forced to bed, but we're free to dream"

I would have to say either Long Time Running or Wheat Kings.

I don't know what it is, but the line "You've got a boat load of nerve" just seems to hit me every time from LTR. And from Wheat Kings, it's gotta be "You can't be fond of living in the past,
cause if you are then there's no way that you're gonna last".

I never knew I was so hung up in the lyrical content of a band until just recently. Weird.

Those are all great emotional songs. I am certainly surprised that no one has mentioned ABAC at all. Maybe it is just a personal favourite, I dunno. It brings back memories of one of my first experiences with the Hip at MLG sitting 4 rows from the rafters watching the entire floor fill with lighters. I remember not even being able to hear myself sing during the chorus because of everyone else singing along. The emotion that I still feel when I think about that amazing moment - you can't forget that stuff!!!

I posted earlier and said Nautical Disaster, and here's why. It has so many emotions involved. Heartbreak, hope, fear, relief... it's such a complete song that it would be number one on almost any hip lists for me. I don't think songs come much more emotional than that...
A couple other ones I'd like to mention.
...Pigeon Camera: listened to it about 5 times yesterday, what a wicked song, unreal, I don't know what emotions it gets from the listener but I know it does bring them out... if that makes sense

...Leave: The part where the mother goes "well there's love and there's hope"...no part of any Hip song gets me going quite like that does.

Nobody has said "Put It Off" so I'll just scribble it down here....

"...I wrote unfriendly things truly cruel on the day that you were born
to prove that words could not touch beauty but I was torn..."

That's some powerful shit every time I hear it.

There are a couple of songs that come to mind for me...
1. Nautical Disaster
2. Fiddler's
3. Long time..
I'm sure I'll come up with some more later but these 3 stick out right now.
Goulet!!!
-you're as quiet as a fish, I only sing for the whole sea-

Without a doubt: Locked in the trunk of a car.

When I'm having one of those days, tired of my job, tired of life, tired of everything, I pop that one in and scream along with Gordie "Let me out!".

If we are just talking about pure raw emotion - then its gotta be Fully Completely.

"You're gonna miss me, wait and you'll see"
"Either it'll move me, or it'll move right through me"

That's someone going through some serious shit.
