Woke up one morning and flipped on MuchMusic. The music and video of "Ahead by a century" blew my mind. Bought 'Henhouse', and was impressed. Every CD before, I purchased a few weeks later and was most impressed with Day for Night. Being only 17 I never had the opportunity to witness them during the ARA years, but the boots I own are impressive. Best band in the world.

I used to hear "New Orleans" on the radio, but I never gave any thought to buying their CD. When I lived in North Dakota I remember watching them on SNL when they performed "Nautical Disaster" and "Grace, too" (1996?). That was the best live performance I have seen prior to that. I then bought every CD by them that I could.
For some reason I never met another hip fan until I finally went to one of their concerts on the 14th of November in Berlin. I would tell my friends or coworkers who I was going to see and they would say "who?" It boggles my mind that most Americans have never heard of them. They're missing out. IMO, I would rather watch the hip than any other band out there.

I always liked them a bit during high school, because so many other people did. But what sold me was ARA in 1997 at Molson Park. It was a great concert. Still one of best Hip shows I have seen. After that I really got into them...

It all started back in something like 1996. I was on my way with my brother and a some of his friends to a speedway in southwestern ontario, and someone just happened to have the up to here tape, and when I heard blow at high dough I was hooked for life. I think the majority of people became hip fans through this tape.

Saturday Night Live.
Not long after Jerry Garcia died I was watching SNL and the Hip came on. From the first notes of "Grace Too" I knew they were good.
Went to see them at Irving Plaza in NYC...only a few short block from my Dojo on 23rd Street. Was front and center for Gordo...Blew me the fuck away...and that is coming from a person who has seen Miles Davis, BB King, The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers front row center.
Gordo's sweat was falling on me at Irving Plaza. The Tragically Hip are the BEST live band to grace modern music in the last 10 years.
In July of 1999 (or was it 2000?) I went to Central Park to see the Hip...my daughter was on my shoulders and we moved up the center aisle. She loved them. Her favorite line is "And don't wipe you asses with you sleaves". She is 12 now. she was 10 when we saw the Hip in Central Park.

It was April 6 1991 , my 19th birthday (drinking age in B.C). My parents took me to a local pub and outside I could hear this awesome riff playing.I was dying to find out who it was , so we wen't inside and when the cover band was finished playing I wen't up and asked them what they were playing. Then came the reply "The Tragically Hip - New Orleans Is Sinking" I later bought "Up To Here" and loved it. A two year alcoholic daze seperated myself from the Hip. I fell in love with the Hip once again when I heard a little tune called Nautical Disaster.Day For Night and Fully Completely became a part of my identity as a proud Canadian. Shamefully I abandonded all logic and decency and did not purchase another Hip album until Music At Work. Shortly after that I started rediscovering the Hip on Napster. Two years later bootlegs have become a passion . I now own all but one album. I got to see them play live for the first time in Vernon on the IVL tour. It was f-ing awesome. I am rediscovering songs of the past such as -THE BASTARD,SPRINGTIME,OPIATED,WILDMOUNTAIN HONEY,GET BACK AGAIN etc. Lyrics-Music-Integrity-Passion=The Tragically Hip. Thanks for the time.

Good to see Hip fans looking out for each other. My problems with the bottle ended in 94. Life's too good to waste. Checked out some Government Mule tunes.Pretty cool! Jesus Just Left Chicago is wicked.
