I'd use 'coconut cream'... just loop the music before the singing.. The song has to sound unique enough to get the fans to connect it to your character. And I'd be quick and dangerous like Jeff hardy and manly like Jazz.

Back in '99, TSN put out an open call for submissions as they were starting a new wrestling web page for their site. Being a big Hulk Hogan fan as a a kid, but not knowing much about the current product, I wrote a comparative piece slagging the new "Soap opera" sports entertainment stuff with the pro wrestling of yesteryear. (My grandparents were actually friendly with Toronto wrestling legend Whipper Billy Watson...) I had a good deal of knowledge about the Tunney's and the old Maple Leaf promotion that ran MLG from the 30's to the 80's.

I was more interested in the business/strategy side of things, which was good since the internet was making everybody an "insider" by the mid 90's.

Anyway, it was a "Canadian Idol" style voting process, where submissions were voted on by TSN.ca readers and the winner won a weekly gig. The key was to appeal to non wrestling fans and maybe even pull them into the product. Well, I finished third, but the goons over at TSN liked my knowledge of the businesses history, so they gave me a weekly column called "Through The Years." So, for 16 months, I studied pro wrestling history like I was in friggin' law school, and wrote about it for TSN. Luckily, WWF RAW was the highest rated show on Canadian cable at the time, so I did get some decent exposure.

At this point, I'm not up on the current scene, but I can pretty much tell you anything about wrestling from 1930 to 2000.

And one thing I learned in a hurry:
What happens in front of the camera
is nowehere near as interesting or just plain strange
as what happens behind it.

Oh, and whenever Lansberg would have wrestlers on his Off The Record show, he'd crib ALL of his knowledge and questions from the tsn.ca/wrestling crew and then give us ZERO credit... He also hits on my very married sister... just for the record. :lol:

Seriously? That's the coolest thing ever!

Ed is considered a bit of a cult figure within the business... unfortunately it's in an Ed Wood kinda way as among the worst wrestling broadcasters of all time! :lol: Although I think he gets a rough ride...

He was the voice of Stampede for so long that his "In the mean-time and in between time" and "ring-a-ding-dong-dandy" catch phrases became well known the world over. His voice is still heard on bootleg broadcasts of old Stampede shows in Africa and the Middle East to this day.

And like I said, behind the scenes is always cooler: Ed was known to disagree with Stu Hart's "booking" (creative, writing or storyline) decisions on occaision, and would let it be known via his broadcasting. For instance: when Stu would want to promote someone as a foreigner, an "evil" badguy type in the mold of The Iron Sheik or The Cuban Assassin, if Ed thought it was a stupid character, he'd get on TV and say: "We'll, here's Jim from Kamloops in the ring... nothing really special about him... how bout them Flames, I tell ya..." :mrgreen: He eventually quit over a creative dispute.
