Holy smokes, it was f***ing incredible.

I went in there knowing the band was great, knowing the performance as a whole would be good, and assuming the music would also be good.

Well, the band is great indeed, and the music and the performance were flat-out incredible. This is as good as it gets.

As the album has still yet to drop, I hadn't listened to even one of their songs prior to the show. Didn't really know what to expect, musically, but I assumed it would be more in the vein of QOTSA than Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Zep, etc., and that held true. Their stuff was as balls-to-the-wall as anything I've ever seen in concert. Hard, HARD, skull-rattling numbers....BIG, heavy, gritty, dirty. Not very 'melodic' in style....lots of dissonance and tempo changes. Lots of unique meters and beats. Awesome in the true sense of the word.

I'm really not all that familiar with QOTSA's stuff, and was more impressed with JPJ's live show than almost anything I'd ever seen before, so going in, I was expecting JPJ to stand out as the most 'impressive' musician onstage. WRONG.

The clear standout as far as I'm concerned: DAVE freaking GROHL. I think I said in this very thread that I didn't care much for Grohl. I guess I just didn't pay much attention to his drumming in Nirvana ('cause i really wasn't crazy about that band's stuff), and I'm not much of a fan of the Foos (but he doesn't even play drums for them, does he?). I had no freaking idea that he could play like that. I didn't know he was even HALF the drummer I saw onstage. That guy is a freaking beast, and quite frankly, I'm not sure I've ever seen a drummer that good live and in person. I just cannot convey how blown away I was by his energy, ferocity, the sweet fills, and especially the superb bass rolls he was doing all night long in almost every song. I'm assuming he uses a double-bass pedal, because I didn't think it was possible to do some of those rolls with just one foot and one pedal.

Wow. I might not have even bought a ticket if it wasn't for JPJ, and while he is my hero and played very well, he was no more than an equal part of that foursome, at least on that night. Alain Johannes was excellent too. Just a ball-breaking musical experience from start to finish, even if it wasn't for the exact reasons I anticipated going in. Soooo glad I went. Five Stars.

Now I cannot wait for the record!!!

Saw them at ACL and I concur with the ^^^^ poster. Great show, performance and songs. I will be checking out the album when it comes out.
I wasn't sure if I would care for it, but man it was pretty good.

leaving shortly for the show.
tunes sound great ... from what i've heard.
however, from the clips i've seen, there seems to be a lack of energy up there.
(dave aside, of course.)

Best rock album I've heard all year (Pearl Jam's Backspacer is a very close 2nd). It just kicks so much ass, and it's easily the best collaboration/supergroup I've heard in god knows how long. Here's hoping they stick together for at least one more album and tour. I'd kill to see these guys live.

In my selfish opinion, I believe the drums are waaaayyyy too low in the mix. I believe that Grohl deserves as much, and it would have only made the album that much better.

Parts of a few songs hit the sweet spot, but they needed to higher sorta like JP Gaster, from Clutch on the Blast Tyrant album.

albums pretty good. It's more like a new QOTSA album than anything else. Only spun it a couple of times so I'm still not sure yet. Might end up being a once in a while album more than I HAVE to listen album for me.

Give it some time, I found that at first, it didn't really hit me like I expected it to, but now it's settling in nicely for me...it's a creeper (no fubar).

Them Crooked Vultures were on Austin City Limits this past week.
I was wondering if anyone here happened to rip the audio.
