It's true that Moncton hasn't been the Hip's regular NB tour stop, that honor has been bestowed upon St John, but Moncton has hosted the hip a number of times over the years(confirmed tour stops for FC, DFN, PP, & M@W tours, as well as opening for the Stones in '05). It'd be nice to see them here again.

I think the incident you're referring to is the "Spanky's Incident". I've never actually heard the story from someone who was there, but the story goes like this... after a show (not sure which tour, but I'm guessing this was in the early days) the band decided to hit one of the local bars. The bouncer at Spanky's didn't know who the guys were and also didn't like the fact that Gord D was wearing steal toe boots (which weren't, and maybe still aren't, allowed in clubs). He asked Gord to change his shoes, Gord refused and swore the Hip would never play Moncton again.
I would hope, if this story holds any truth, that Gord has gotten over the Spanky's snub.

COME BACK TO MONCTON GUYS!!!! It's been too long. The opening set before the Stones was nice, but not long enough.

I heard this story from someone who was there! Consider it confirmed :thumb:
(Nothing was ever mentioned about never returning to Moncton... and they have played Moncton on several occasions since the incident...)

I've also heard that story from someone who was there. It was the spring of 1990, I believe, after The Hip's infamous show at The Warehouse (which, incidently, doesn't appear on thehip.com past show list) where Gord D was very impaired and/or high and/or tired to the point that he collapsed on the tiny stage for quite some time between songs before being helped up by Paul & Bobby. He finished the show, though details are sketchy. I was there but had about 12 pitchers of draft in me.

Carry on.
