• I asked for an invite because my account was deleted due to inactivity.
• I said I might have an invite - an invite for you no less!!!
• And I also wrote, "As much fun as Oink can be... I don't think posting on a fan forum a suggestion that people illegally download an album instead of buying it is a good idea..."

And how is "It's an officially released product and as such illegal download opportunities are not discussed..." judgmental and rude?

Here are a few more worth noting:

"The site didn't post a link - a user did. And no, it's not OK. But as it appears that you're OK with stealing, your morals, ethics, etc, are much different than mine."

That is the rude and judgmental part. You are implying that you are somehow more moral or better than this person when in fact you have been very guilty of doing the same thing as him. That's what I am taking exception to here.

• I sent an invite to a torrent site - shame on me. If I had sent it to you, in response to your request in another thread, would you be pointing this out?
• I told someone where to look for something - shame on me again.
• I admitted to watching a show that I downloaded through Bit Torrent. A show that I paid for through my TMN subscription, and on DVD.

Why are you on my case about this Billy? I'm not implying anything. I said it quite clearly - the user is OK with stealing, I'm not. What is rude about that? And based on what was written I made a judgement.

I think you guys have beat this dead horse long enough

want to be a nobody without peer
want to be a thought that's never done
want to shake your faith in human nature
want to break the hearts of everyone
want to be your wheezing screen door
want to be your stars of Algonquin
want to be your roaring floorboard
want to break the hearts of everyone

I'm confused...it's illegal and wrong to download Heksenketel, but to my knowledge there's no where to legally purchase it? If it's literally not available to be bought (and buying copies from shady dudes on eBay doesn't count - that shit doesn't put money in the Hip's pockets), I don't see the point in depriving other fans of it.

I understand what you're saying but it is technically illegal. It's discontinued. It's obsolete. Just because something isn't available anymore doesn't make it legal to download it.

wonder why the mods/maV of this site didn't delete the thread for the pirate bay wats audio link? i just dont get that at all...it was up for days here, and for this site, which has a direct link from the main hip website, i just thought that was whacked...anyhoo...

yup i'm OK with illegal downloading and i am the exact opposite as you... i started off years ago thinking i shouldn't and then had an about face and said "why should u2 and springsteen get any more money above those $100 tickets that i'm already buying!" besides, isn't there a canadian tax built into every cdr/dvdr blank sold that goes directly to the musicians anyways? i also draw the line somewhere and support new artists by not downloading...though i suppose that could be looked at me being on both sides of the fence.

anyhoo back to the topic at hand...i never realized this has been discussed in length before and i still feel that if it's discontinued and out of print then it's fair game. i do like the idea of setting my camera up on a tripod and capturing it on my sd card and then burning to dvdr...so thanks to whomever mentioned that!

oh those shady gray areas are always the toughest for a long time loyal fan Wink

oh and um don'tcha just hate smokers who quit and then pull the high&mighty route on ya when ya light one up! lol

It is not stealing...I look at it as upgrading. Most of us have a copy of it on VHS anyways. If it is any consulation, none of the band members, nor their entourage, will be sleeping under a bridge tonight. This site is mostly made up of diehard fans whom have spent thousands of dollars on Hip tickets, merchandise, etc. I think there are worse things we could be doing.

That logic doesn't hold any water. If it's illegal, it's illegal. Call it what you want and rationalize it in whatever way works best for you, but it is still illegal.

so this begs to ask "who's really in charge of making things illegal" and when does one question whether it really should be illegal or not....seems to me booze was once illegal...WTF! same as black people riding in the front of the bus was a crime too...heck i heard some states still beleive gay sex is illegal...maybe it's time to start the movement! free the old unreleased/unavailable/out of print items NOW! who's with me?!!!

it's the gray area again and i bet you never go over the posted speed limit and i know i certainly wont be casting any first stones at any glass houses...cause i'm a admitted sinner Wink

everyone has sin. even adam.

damn the delicious fruit!

I'm not throwing any stones, simply pointing out faulty logic. I'm also not attempting to convince you that it being illegal to torrent and download is right. I'm just stating what is a fact.
