I did not say that interview subjects should be allowed to influence what questions are allowed; but lets face it, depending on how the reporter feels about the person they are interviewing, they will either throw softballs or be a aggressive, doubting thomas. It happens in entertainment reporting, business reporting, political reporting, etc and the specific attitude I dislike in the news media is their assumption that because they get to report on the news, they get to decide what is newsworthy and how to present it. I, for one, am glad blogs exist because otherwise we still would have gatekeeper, establishment media that would be able to shape public opinion to suit their own personal beliefs.

Fox, CNN, ABC, etc etc etc. Blogs aren't perfect either but they don't necessarily need ratings to survive and thus they have more ability, in my opinion, to do more investigative (indepth, not just "gotcha") journalism.

I don't like the fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but I learned to get over it.

Blogs doing investigative journalism? Don't make me laugh. Blogs are all about the gotcha. They are the least reliable, least balanced and least accurate source of information out there.

And the Gatekeeper, mainstream media is any better? At least with blogs you have other blogs out there with a different point of view that can expose their slant and/or mistakes. Gunga Dan and his merry band of CBS hacks are still claiming their expose of Bush's military service is the real deal and not based on forgeries.

I honestly have no more respect for the "journalism" that eminates from "mainstream outlets" in this country than I do for any of the other sources these days. It seems almost every outlet has a clearly discernable agenda, and it has gotten to a point where I really have no idea where to turn for a so-called "honest, unbiased" reporting.

If any of you truly believe that what FOX does is any different than what CNBC and CNN are doing, you are either wearing blinders or are flat-out delusional.

I have found myself resorting mainly to AP wire blurbs for "news", mostly because of brevity -- the fewer the "inches", the smaller the opportunity for facts to be tinged with opinion. I virtually ignore anything that falls into the "investigative journalism" at this point, as such pieces are overwhelmingly more sensationalist than they are informative by design.

Beyond the wire, I stick to op-ed pieces more than anything because I have become familiar with the overall 'orientation' of the columnists I read on both ends of the spectrum, so I know what to expect, and have generally learned how to temper the content accordingly.
