I'm not familiar with much else on the list (though I will be aquainting myself when the cash money starts flowin') but I'd just like to say it'd be nice to see Plaskett take this. Great album.

Arkells got shafted. Drag.

Though I am surprised to see more than one rock record on the shortlist.

For those interested in checking out these artists, here are some mixes I made.

As for the shortlist, well, 5/10 ain't bad. Still pulling for Chad VanGaalen, though I'd also be okay with Malajube or Great Lake Swimmers (and to a lesser extent Plaskett - I like the guy but Three is too bloated to be best of the year for me).

They sure did.

I'm fully on the Plaskett bandwagon now.

CBC radio 3 has conveniently posted a link to concerts/sessions for each of the shortlisted artists (other than Metric) from their archives:

Oh, and the Rural Alberta Advantage should really have made BOTH of these lists.

I've heard that's a great record. I'll probably pick it up this weekend.

good call on Milk but Expo 86 is not out until June 29th and therefore ineligible for this year's prize.

Solid list, EPenguin10.
My favourite Canadian album from the last year, off the top of my head, would be The Wooden Sky's.

Due to me forgetting my Ipod at home, I decided to give the list a try on one of those free online music services while at work and I am now a fan of the RAA. Guess my work night is going to be a little err.. distracted :music :music
