Wow, I don't know how I overlooked it, but I just came to the realization that Family Band is a killer song. There is not a weak song at all on this album.

Be that as it may, I think the top spot is occupied by Phantom Power's trifecta of Chagrin Falls, Escape and Emperor Penguin.

However, this set may grow on me -- it's early yet.

I don't even listen to Arcade Fire but I'm pretty confident that the Hip aren't copying them since The Hip have been around for more than 20 years and there are 5000 bands that are better than the Arcade Fire and more worthy of copying.

I cannot see these 3 WC tracks superceding the 3 final PP tracks. No way, no how. If something like "Kids" or "Fly" were to replace "Family Band, then perhaps, accounting for the unknown "grow-on-me" quantity of these WC tracks, they could rival those killer PP tunes.....perhaps

Kick out "Family Band"? Sorry, HE, I'd ditch one of the other two in a heartbeat. One of the best Hip tracks in a while, IMO.

Really? Chagrin Falls? Really? I'd say Escape plus Emperor is the best 1-2 closer and that Chagrin is along for the ride. You wouldn't have an Ohio bias, would you?

YES! That is the best 1-2-3 I think as well. If they ever opened a show or an encore with those three in order, it would be pretty sweet. And then the new record in its entirety, followed by Ultra Mundane. Or, alternately, any selection of songs off of their catalogue. I'm not picky.

Chagrin Falls, to me, typifies the stong suits of this band. Dramatic construct, great vocal melody, a darker mood, provocative lyrics, and Gord turning the intensity up to 11 in concert with the musical patterns...

No profound sound no special effects
The continent tipped and she just quietly left
Chagrin falls on our heads
Not in a gush but in maddening droplets

When GD cranks this verse up to the next octave, i get a rush of adrenaline and goosebumps to this very day.

It's almost too early to say this, knwing the propensity for Hip tunes to "grow", but:

I think Chagrin blows "Family Band" out of the water. I think FB is the second weakest cut on this album. To glossy, too flaky -- too "In View".
