I have been listening to "World Container" for the better part of the day and it keeps giving me goosebumps.
I don't know what it is about the passion in Gord's voice on this track but I keep getting all choked up. There's such urgency and, perhaps a melded, muddled mixture of love and regret. *sigh* I dunno.
On another note, one of my more perceptive students heard me listening to it while he was making up a quiz and quipped, "Hey! Ms. Douglas! This is good; it almost sounds a little like Pink Floyd, but you know, the early stuff." That made my afternoon, fully, competely.

My list, which'll change probably.
The Drop-Off
Yer Not The Ocean
Lonely End of the Rink
Family Band
The Kids Don't Get It
Last Night I dreamed
Fly
Luv (sic)
In View
Pretend
World Container.
I think it's cool that kids in Cinncinati liked the Hip.

So tonight at work I brought up how pumped I was to be able to crank up some new Hip. My coworker made a comment to the effect that he wasnt a big fan of the boys- farenough. Then he said that "their new song (In View) is a complete rip-off of The Arcade Fire."
I wasn't surprised he was ripping on the Hip, I just thought it was a weird thing to say. First off, I don't see any similarity between any of the Arcade Fire's material and In View. Secondly, The Hip havebeen along much longer than the arcade fire.
Anyone else notice a similarity?
I just thought it was strange...
On another note, my favourite two tracks right now are The Kids Don't Get It and Yer Not The Ocean.

Just listening to the album this morning and said to my GF that the guitar part in Family Band sounded like Arcade Fire, the chugging rhythm, etc. Came on here and see someone else sees the Arcade Fire comparison, albeit on another song.
I love Family Band, so good. The best part is the lyric about packing the kick drum and then the kick drum starting. Neat little touch.
Great album all around!!! Warming up to it more and more every listen.
