Whom Are You Going To See ?

Fantastic show by the Arkells last night at the Wildhorse. If you haven't had a chance to see these guys live yet, I highly recommend checking them out when they hit your town. Hands down one of the tightest, most energetic bands you'll ever see. They never fail to kick my ass. I'm pretty sure they played almost all of the first 2 albums last night, plus a couple of new songs from the forthcoming album. Awesome cover of "Rock the Casbah" in the encore followed by a raucous version of "Whistleblower" to close out the night.

Tomorrow night is Mr. Downie, the Sadies, and the Conquering Sun. Review coming soon!

Evolve was unreal. Has anyone ever seen That One Guy? That was one of the most original and fun sets I have ever seen. Other highlights were BADBADNOTGOOD, Hey Rosetta and Grandmaster Flash absolutely brought the house down. Every east coaster (and beyond) should go to this festival. So we'll organized and setup. Unreal weekend! Hopefully see ya in the future there!

I saw a bit of JSB... couple songs then went to bed. Their set started at 2am. And I've seen them more times then I can count.
I know it was their last show, but after taking in music from Noon until 2am, it was time to go recharge my mars.

Went to NIN and Soundgarden on a whim on Sunday at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto. Was amazed at the male to female ratio - overwhelming guys outnumbering girls. There was definitely a Trent Reznor thingy going on that was a little suspect. Chris Cornell made the Soundgarden show just fine, would have loved to have seen Matt Cameron on drums though. NIN was ... good, but industrial guitar\synth metal has not aged well over the years in my opinion. Visually it was stunning, but was not overwhelmed by the whole experience. First time seeing both bands, I think if I was seeing the for the umpteenth time I would have walked away quite disappointed.

Went and saw Arcade Fire on Tuesday night at the Saddledome, and they absolutely killed it. I'm not a big fan of their latest album, but their live show is pretty f'n amazing. They also played lots of material from the first three records, so I left happy. This tour is much more of a production than your typical rock show. They have a DJ and dance competition during the intermission, a human disco ball, and confetti and streamers raining down from the rafters during certain songs. They certainly know how to put on a show, that's for sure. Great band.
