Man, I've been trying to get into Wilco. I hear the talent...so much there...but for whatever reason, they just won't break through that barrier that separates 'appreciation' and 'enthusiasm' for me.

It's the album that drew me in. And it's quite "accessible" by their standards, in my opinion. I know there are more than a few dedicated Wilco fans here at the 'base that will disagree.

Not sure what all I've heard and from which albums, but i don't believe I've heard anything off Being There. i know I'm not too keen on Summerteeth, and I know that I am more preferential to the stuff on Sky Blue Sky, but to tell you the truth -- I need more exposure to all of it before I close the book on them. I know that I can dig the musicianship and the overall compositions, but honestly, the guy's voice -- Jeff Tweedy, right? -- just doesn't do it for me, and I'm not very big on the vocal melodies in general.
I remember seeing them here in Cincy clear back in 1995 as part of the HORDE festival....and thought they sounded great and held alot of promise..I think I even saw them open for Mellencamp once or twice in promotion of A.M.? Is that possible?

Summer Teeth is, imho, their most inconsistent album. It has it's moments, but it has never quite gelled for me the way their other albums have. You might want to look into Being There if you like the Sky Blue Sky stuff. The, of course, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born are two of the best albums done by anyone.

"Being There" is definitely the album that sucked me into the vortex of Wilco. It's just awesome from start to finish and it's still my favorite album of theirs. All killer, no filler. I first saw them live on the Hip's ARA tour in '97 (man, I wish they'd bring that back) and they blew me away. I've been a fan ever since. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born are also excellent, not to mention they're one of the best live bands I've ever witnessed. Check out their live album "Kicking Television" or their recent DVD "Ashes of American Flags" and you'll see what I'm talkin' about. Hands down one of the best rock n' roll bands in America. They have a new record coming out in June and I can't freakin' wait!

Good call on the Buffalo Tom! "Let Me Come Over" is by far one of my favorite records of the 90s, and it always seems to work it's way into my favorite albums of all time list. Great band.
