Burning .mkv's & Other
#10

I haven't noticed any issues/had any problems with the WD HD Media player. The .mkv files I've played are 720p, and while I haven't tried a 1080p file yet, from all the reviews I've read, it works. It appears that there were some issues when the box first came out, but firmware updates seem to have fixed any earlier problems.

I personally would have preferred a media extender solution, but I'm not in the position in my current home to install a properly wired network, so this option does the trick. It's also nice because you can either send video through the HDMI output to a high-def tv, or you can still stream video via component cables, depending on the television.

If there's one thing I don't like about it, is that if you play a dvd rip in the dvd-folder/ISO format, you can't access the dvd's menu. Not a huge deal but one I hope is changed in future updates.

Anyway I'm very happy with what it can do and would recommend it as a space and time saver compared to the encode/burn route.

Give it some thought.

Cheers.
