05/26/09: Vic Theatre: Chicago, Illinois
#13

This night being my third time seeing them, I was happy that I knew so many songs. I can understand why more longtime fans were disappointed. I was in the front row of the balcony, dead center and I thought it sounded good until the encore. Gord played with a different bass and it muddied the mix and was much louder than his previous bass.

Nice intro to Escape mentioning not only Jim Ellison but recently deceased ex-Wilco member Jay Bennett.

The one annoying thing to me were people close to the front who seemed to be taking more pictures of the band than watching the show. A few pictures are fine, but c'mon people! In fact, I think Gordon was mocking them as Bobcaygeon came to a close and he'd walk toward people, strumming and holding his guitar out at them so they could get the perfect shot. He was saying something to them that seemed like "cheese" or "this is for you". Odd.

Great show though. I enjoyed it.
