The Tragically Hip at the Bathouse Part 2
#38

tigerthelion Wrote:The Hip are my favourite band, so, obviously I'm a fan of Rob Baker and his guitar work. Rob Baker has a great style of his own but he is somewhat limited in what he can play. Heck, HE WOULD EVEN TELL YOU THAT. Writing music is part of being a skilled musician. Robby writes to the best of his abilities, which are very good. You're positive Robby can play, note for note, the best material Clapton did with 'Cream'? I doubt it. I don't want him to melt my face. I prefer to listen to him over someone like Steve Vai to be completely honest. We gotta be honest here, though. Robby doesn't "choose" to just be limited. He IS LIMITED compared to guys like Clapton and Hendrix. Robby does play with great emotion, though, which is what I love about him.

Robby is talented but there are thousands of guitarists who are more talented than him. Saying that, though, I'd rather listen to him as part of The Hip than those other guitarists most days.

I dont even think clapton plays clapton licks note for note
I agree with alot of what youre saying, you came off as sounding very anti-Baker the first time around. my big stink was, what makes one guitarist better than the next one? I'm not saying I think Robby is the most skilled player in the world. but along with the likes of SRV, Page, Hendrix, Petrucci, Clapton, Frusciante, they each have completely different skill sets but all bring something unique to their craft, and anyone would be hard pressed to come up with a difinitive best guitarist.

You're absolutely right that there are thousands of better guitarrists in the world...90% of which will never be under the spotlight. It has always been a mind boggling thing to see how many genuinely gifted musicians fall through the cracks because some suit with a big bag of money thinks their sound is... out of style...go on youtube, your local pub, theyre not hard to find. lol sorry to go off topic, but damn. if it wasnt for the bands of yesterday still putting out music.. I'd be even more ashamed of popular music today. Some of the musicians on the world stage sound like theyve been playing their instrument for about a week and a half.

But back on topic.... I've got a fever...and the only perscription..is more bathouse videos...

That wasnt cheesey... :?
