Well, perhaps I am the only Hip fan to say this........but I can not stand R.E.M............never liked them, never will.
Nothing against anybody who does, I am sure there are bands out there I love and other hate, just my own personal tastes.
And I never got the correlation between the two groups? Aside from both Stipe and Downie now being bald........thats about as close of a comparison I can find?? I don't think they sound even close to the same for people to draw comparisons to their music??
