I offered a solution - blow up the roster and start from scratch, but it's too late for that now, because they no longer have any tradeable assets. So until some of those contracts start to run out, this team isn't going to see much improvement. Yes, a better goalie could get them into the playoffs as is, but unless he's a real stud, that's all it would get them. The goal isn't making the playoffs, it's winning the Cup, and as long as McCabe, Kubina, and Gill are 3 of their top 4 defensemen, they're not going to do that.

Assuming JFJ extends Sundin (he already told us he would) and re-signs his RFA's, he'll have about $10 million to play with this summer. What do you suggest he does with it?

Well, I don't think their D is as bad as everyone assumes (especially with Carlo and White playing well for stretches this year). If they only allowed the 8th fewest shots in the league, then clearly they are doing something right. Combine that with finishing 8th in goals for, they are a top 10 team.....except for the goaltender.

I don't know who or what goalie would be available, but Sundin's window as a point-a-game player is coming to a close, so if they are bringing him back (which is 99% certain), then get a real frickin goalie and make a run at it. I just don't know what the price tag on getting a Toskela or whoever would be.
