I can definitely understand why the Oilers would trade Ryan Smyth & who knows if there was a better offer out there had they decided earlier in the day that they were going to deal him, but really they didn't got much of anything in return either. I'm not really a fan of either Robert Nielson or Ryan O'Marra & question whether either will ever make an impact in the NHL, and the 1st round pick will be likely be in the 16th-20th range, and it's not supposed to be a strong draft by any stretch.

I think the Islanders are obviously a better team today with not only Ryan Smyth on board, but also Richard Zednik...and the fact they didn't deal Jason Blake

Detroit added both Todd Bertuzzi & Kyle Calder, both come with obvious question marks...but the potential is there, and i really like both of these moves from a Red Wings perspective.

I really like what John Davidson did today too for the St.Louis Blues. He got back a very, very good package for Keith Tkachuk a few days ago, and yielded another good package for Bill Guerin this morning. He also added a guy that i'm a big fan of, and that is Brad Boyes. Boyes had a terrific rookie season for the Bruins last season but got off to a rough start in Boston this year, and as such has been in coach Dave Lewis' doghouse the last couple months. I think he'll rebound in St.Louis though playing a much more promient role.

The Atlanta Thrashers are big winners in my opinion as well. Not only did they add Keith Tkachuk up front and veteran Alexei Zhitnik on the blueline, but also plucked two veterans off the Rangers roster in center Jason Krog and speedster Pascul Dupuis.

The Sharks are a much stronger team today too with Bill Guerin & Craig Rivet on board, and i like the Leafs addition of Yanic Perreault, even though it came at a fairly steep price in defensemen Brandon Bell and a top draft pick.
