For those interested here was a simple breakdown of what I did for the vol3 cover:

I started with a few images I took of an old plank that I found, then using the Clone Stamp I made a few stock planks out of that data, putting the scratches and knicks where they seemed to fit. the rest is illustrated in that breakdown. Keep in mind there are quite a few more layers involved(i can't give away all my secrets), such a Colour Burning to corrode the edges and give the darker areas in the cracks and seams.
