Personally, I just liked walking around and looking at things. Queens St. (I think) and Junge St. were cool. 8)
There is, of course, the Eaton Centre at the corner of Queens & Junge for all your highly commercialized shopping needs.
Yeah, we went to the Eaton Centre. There's an Apple Shop in there, and I got to play on some gorgeous machines, and the biggest monitor ever!

My girlfriend lived in T. for year - here's her recommendations:
Umm. if you are going to be pretty cold for a start so I'm sort of concentrating on indoor things*.
It might not sound that appealing but I'd recommend the bata shoe museum (its 327 bloor st) just down from the ROM. Its a bit different and not just one for girls who know their Jimmy Chos from their Manohlo Blahniks.
If you fancy the hockey museum then leave plenty of time to find it. It is not in the Rogers centre but in the middle of a shopping centre. We spent so long trying to find it that we ran out of time.
For shopping I'd recommend Queen St West rather than the Eaton Centre. Its got more independent shops and is a bit quirkier. The further west the more quirky.
*If you go back in the summer getting a ferry accross to the islands or cycling or just walking along the lake front is lovely.
