I love the sound of Rob's pedal steel in Vaccination Scar, the depth and potential multiple meanings of the lyrics, and the great line of "So the chemistry's set" as an opening lyric... it's a lyric that begs to hear the next line to see what he's singing about. As for Recluse, that song gives me chills. It has a haunting and melancholic feel to it that I love.
Agree on all points, especially Scar's opening line, which I would only put second to "He said I'm fabulously rich, c'mon just let's go" in the list of great opening Hip lines.
