UTH, RA and FC were very accessible albums for many people - big songs with catchy melodies and big riffs -- party/cottage/campfire anthems. DFN was a definite tonal shift for the band. The darker more brooding sound on this album might not have been everyone's cup of tea. I remember there being lots of talk among fans at the time about the bleakness of the song titles alone -- just read through the track list again -- the song titles are comically bleak - and if Gord D is to believed, that's what he was going for.
