I agree. Gord's voice was spectacular last night. Just as strong as it is on the album. Considering the songs were written and recorded a couple years ago and the band really only had a couple days of rehearsal, they sounded incredible. I even liked Gord's little "Here we go..." before the chorus kicks in on "The Only Place to Be" -- just as he does on the album.
I also saw Atom Egoyan there -- actualy I would have been surprised if he wasn't there.
I am also just seeing on Twitter that Gord and the band are playing at Massey Hall right now...a surprise set at the Dream Serenade show (which features Broken Social Scene and Barenaked Ladies).
Finally, really bummed to read in the Globe article that Gord and his wife aren't together. Obviously, I have no idea why (nor is it any of my business), but hearing that makes Gord's struggle seem even sadder.
