When Gord cut his first solo record I thought he might just get this other side of his creative mind out of the way. It didn't. He brought it back to the hip

I was just thinking about that over the weekend when "The East Wind" came on shuffle on my iPod. I literally had to stop and think for a second, I couldn't remember if this was a solo Gord song or a Hip song.........

I do like some of Gord`s solo stuff, but it is on a different path than than The Hip. And I can understand why he would want to go out and try something a bit different. But, in all honesty, World Container, We Are The Same, Now For Plan A........they all sound like Gord Downie solo, they don't have that Hip feel or much of THEIR sound to those albums. They have turned onto the path of Gord's solos stuff and have lost what made the Hip, The Hip.

I am not expecting them to make another "Day For Night" (just as I would never expect The Stones to make another "Exile"), but the thing that makes a good band is when you can immediately tell who it is on the radio based just on the sound alone. Keeping a sound doesn't mean you haven't grown or matured. New Pearl Jam still sounds like Pearl Jam, yet its not "10" either.........

I just want the sound back............
