It's a catch-22 situation and the second guessing is always going to be there. The question is do they overtrain the security teams to the point where they are second guessing themselves in a critical situation or do you allow them to use their instincts and training in situations where they have reason to believe that their suspect is an imminent threat?

If the guy was yelling he had a bomb, then you can't fault the air marshal. But if that part of the story turns out to be a fabrication -- as with the de Menezes thing -- then I'd be asking why. Cops don't lie for no reason.

It's that simple.

I'd agree with that, if they are lying about him yelling he had a bomb or something along those lines, then I'd wonder if they were covering something up. I'm sure his wife was trying to tell them that he was nuts, but in those situations you can't be sure that isn't a diversion.
